Job description

This role will be based in Singapore (hybrid) and directly report to the Head of Finance Asia.

In this role, you have the opportunity to be a key member of the Asia Finance Team. This is a newly created role supporting the commercial controlling activities for Versuni Southeast Asia (excluding Indonesia). Additionally, this role will also have day-to-day responsibilities for the Singapore P&L and would support the Singapore Commercial Leader.

Southeast Asia (SEA), comprising of 5 countries/segments including Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand and Export, is part of the Asia & ANZ region. As SEA Commercial Controller for Versuni, you will be leading and working closely with business stakeholders and the Regional Finance team to ensure the accuracy and financial health of Versuni SEA, ensuring that we are in compliance with local regulations while supporting the business to grow.

This role will have four direct reports.

The Impact you’ll make:

South-East Asia Commercial Controlling

Commercial Finance

  • Key finance business partner to commercial teams based across SEA markets.
  • Partner with the commercial team in building business plans, evaluating and approving promotions, assessing return on investments, validating customer claims, and ensuring proper documentation is in place.
  • Collaborate with the commercial strategy team to implement pricing per Asia & ANZ guidelines and understand channel/customer level strategy within each market to drive profit optimization.
  • Drive working capital & DSO improvement in SEA markets including analyzing for low hanging fruits and implementing contract changes for better working capital.
  • Drive conversations between marketing, trade marketing, demand planning, and commercial teams in optimizing trade investments and finding market opportunities to grow, ensuring trade-off discussions are done in line with business priorities.
  • Instill commercial discipline and uphold compliance standards, proactively reviewing current processes to address control deficiencies.

Reporting & Analysis

  • Analyze P&L by market/category performance and provide insights to assist the commercial team on business and financial improvement opportunities.
  • Initiate market-specific price builds, pricing reviews, and trade terms analysis, ensuring reports are in place to guide management decisions.
  • Provide insightful commentaries and support team reporting deliverables (weekly/monthly/quarterly/ad hoc). Drive monthly business reviews with the SEA leadership team.
  • Consolidate SEA financial performance and drive the SEA development of the annual budget, in line with global/region priorities.

Singapore Finance Controlling

Commercial Finance

  • Support annual joint business plan and distributor/channel target setting.
  • Drive conversations between marketing, trade marketing, and commercial teams in optimizing trade investments.
  • Collaborate with the demand planning team to review market opportunities and mitigate risks in conjunction with every forecast cycle.
  • Review inventory depletion performance against shipment forecast with an understanding of market share.

Planning & Forecasting

  • Proactively identify risks and opportunities and engage the commercial team in discussions on gap-closing initiatives.
  • Manage the monthly forecast cycle, participating in all sales planning meetings.

Accounting operations & statutory compliance

  • Together with the SEA Accounting controller, manage all internal and external audits, ensuring all documentation and processes are in place and compliant. Attend to audit queries and provide required information.
  • Ensure all financial statements and reports comply with local and fiscal regulations, including the translation of IFRS accounts to Local GAAP.
  • Responsible for the month-end closing process, including review of the Trial Balance and analytical reviews to ensure accounting bookings and records are accurately and timely maintained, and reporting timelines are met. Perform Internal Control evaluation and assessment and continuously seek improvements in the process.

Leadership

  • Develop and manage 4 direct reports.
  • Drive project implementations within SEA. Support business case for innovation or new business opportunities.
  • Build relationships and strengthen ways of working within the Asia & ANZ Finance team.
  • Undertake other duties as required.

The Skills and Knowledge You’ll Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting or Finance. Professional certifications such as Intermediate Accountant, CPA, or ACCA are preferred.
  • At least 12-15 years of relevant work experience within Finance and Accounting. At least 3-5 years of business partnering experience supporting a country or regional general manager with people leadership experience.
  • Proficient in local accounting policies and tax regulations. Skilled in using various MS applications and hands-on experience with SAP is preferred.
  • Detail-oriented, strong execution capabilities, excellent communication skills (written and verbal), and ability to work independently as well as being a good team player.
  • English proficiency is a needed requirement.
  • Self-driven and resilient with a can-do attitude - embodies an owner mindset with a strong commitment to contributing to the success of the organization.
