Job Description:
The OIS Group is seeking a highly motivated scientist or senior scientist to lead and conduct research in AI-driven algorithms for image-processing for feature detection and classification. Development of cutting-edge algorithms to support inspection applications for deployment in industrial environments while addressing key challenges such as:
- Online surface and sub-surface (via X-ray) defects detection and classification
- Feature recognition and classification with complex background and weak contrast images
- Requirement to clearly differentiate features from artefacts
- Limited availability of defect data necessitating use of synthetic or generative approaches
- The key roles and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Lead and grow the AI-driven image processing team
- Formulate scientific research directions and innovative proposals to secure competitive funding
- Understand the artificial intelligence and image processing domains
- Delivery of successful applications and innovative solutions to industry problems
Job Requirements:
- PhD degree in AI, Computer Science, or other relevant disciplines with emphasis on optimization, machine learning and data-science
- Candidates with strong fundamentals in computing and AI, and at least 2 years' experience in research and leadership of R&D projects in the relevant area of expertise (5 years' experience for Senior Scientist)
- Good track record of scientific publications in leading journals/conferences
- History of successful industry engagement and project delivery
Machine Learning and Deep Learning Expertise:
- Proficiency in frameworks like TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Keras
- Experience with convolutional neural networks (CNNs), object detection models (e.g., YOLO, Faster R-CNN), and segmentation models (e.g., U-Net, Mask R-CNN)
- Familiarity with transfer learning and model optimization techniques
- Ability to work with large datasets, including data augmentation and annotation
- Experience with tools like Labelbox, CVAT, or SuperAnnotate for labeling
- Knowledge of deploying models in production environments (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, TensorFlow Serving).
- Familiarity with edge deployment (e.g., NVIDIA Jetson, TensorRT) for industrial applications
Computer Vision Knowledge:
- Strong understanding of image processing techniques (e.g., filtering, edge detection, feature extraction)
- Experience with OpenCV, PIL, or similar libraries
- Knowledge of 3D vision and point cloud processing
Programming Skills:
- Proficiency in Python
- Experience with C ++ for performance-critical applications
- Familiarity with software development best practices (version control, testing, debugging)
Good verbal and written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills in engaging peers and management.
