Job description

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Optics and Imaging Systems (OIS) Group is seeking a highly motivated scientist or senior scientist to lead and conduct research in optics and laser technologies targeting industrial applications across multiple industry sectors.

The candidate will work closely with senior colleagues to drive and enhance the Group's research with focus in the following areas:

• High-resolution Imaging and Microscopy
• Laser-based Metrology and Sensing
• Hyperspectral, Multispectral and Non-Linear Imaging
• Metasurfaces and Flat Optics for Inspection

The key roles and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

• Lead and grow the Optical Components and Optical Systems Teams
• Formulate scientific research directions and innovative proposals to secure competitive funding
• Understand the technology landscape (industry demand, technology push and research activity) for Autonomous Manufacturing and identify opportunities and challenges for Optics-led Manufacturing Inspection and Vision
• Delivery of successful applications and innovative solutions to industry problems.

Job Requirements:

• PhD degree in Optics, Lasers, Physics or other relevant disciplines
• Candidates with strong fundamentals in optics and laser technologies, and at least 2 years' experience in research and leadership of R&D projects in the relevant area of expertise (5 years’ experience for Senior Scientist).
• Good track record of scientific publications in leading journals/conferences.
• History of successful industry engagement and project delivery.
• Good verbal and written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills in engaging peers and management.
• Self-motivation, ability to adapt to change and use initiative, proactive team player mindset are highly desirable traits.
