Job description

A*STAR Infectious Diseases Labs (A*IDL) is actively seeking a Scientist to join our mission of becoming a leading centre for infectious diseases research. A*IDL aims to develop a cohesive A*STAR response integrated with National PREPARE programme, and to advance translational research in infectious diseases to improve both health and economic outcomes.

The Genetics of Host Immunity Lab at A*IDL focuses on studying the genetic and immunological determinants of life-threatening viral diseases. We are interested in how variants in human genes, or their immunological phenocopies, can predispose patients to severe viral diseases upon exposure to common, yet typically benign viruses. Better understanding of the cause and mechanism of disease that drive the clinical manifestations in patients can guide the development of targeted and effective therapeutic strategies against viral infections. We are looking for a motivated and dynamic geneticist/ bioinformatician to join us in this adventure. This work may require the selected candidate to work in a BSL-2 and BSL-3 facility.

Job Descriptions:

  • Leading projects within the lab including the search for genetic variant enrichment in various patient cohorts (in collaboration with our dry-lab partners), designing and conducting wet-lab experiments, performing the analyses and documenting the results, as well as ensuring the timely achievement of project milestones.
  • Participate in local and international collaborations with clinical and research partners.
  • Work with patient cohorts and relevant pre-clinical models (both in vitro and ex vivo) of infectious disease in BSL2, BSL2-enhanced and BSL3 facilities.
  • Develop new research techniques, approaches or products that could create new intellectual properties, patents and publications.
  • Mentoring of students and participation in A*STAR or Institute-related events.

Job Requirements:

  • PhD in Genetics, Biomedical Sciences, Microbiology, Immunology, Infectious Diseases or related fields.
  • At least 1 -2 years of relevant experience with genetics or bioinformatics background would be an advantage.
  • Strong analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to complete research projects.
  • Capable of performing effectively in a fast-paced setting.
  • Highly motivated and able to work independently as well as in a group.
  • Team player with good interpersonal skills.
  • Candidates with no experience may apply.

The above eligibility criteria are not exhaustive. A*STAR may include additional selection criteria based on its prevailing recruitment policies. These policies may be amended from time to time without notice. We regret that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
