Job description
Overview

MojiaBio is seeking highly motivated scientists with a background in Biofoundry, Automation and AI at our R&D headquarters located in Shanghai. The ideal candidates will play key roles on the use of state-of-the-art synthetic biology approaches to develop and improve our chemical manufacturing platforms. The positions will be tasked with the design and construction of novel biocatalysts (enzymes, pathways, microbial cells), developing and carrying out both classical and advanced genetic, pathway and metabolic engineering strategies to improve biocatalytic performance. The scientists will be part of MojiaBio’s Synthetic Biology (SynBio) team and will work closely with members of the fermentation, bioconversion and process engineering teams.

Responsibilities
  • Design and execute automated workflows to engineer and optimize microbial strains for enhanced bioproduction.
  • Utilize advanced genetic engineering techniques to modify and improve cellular characteristics for high-throughput strain engineering.
  • Develop and implement automated platforms and robotic systems to streamline strain engineering processes.
  • Create diverse libraries of genetic constructs or microbial strains and perform high-throughput screening to identify top-performing variants.
  • Utilize data analysis tools and AI-driven approaches to interpret large datasets generated from high-throughput screenings to identify key strain candidates.
  • Implement quality control measures to validate strain performance through experimental validation and data verification.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop methods, collect results, and assure quality of results.
  • Keep up-to-date with advancements in the field and apply emerging technologies to advance projects.
  • Participate with the IP team to protect, enrich, and increase the value of the company's technology IP portfolio.
Qualifications
  • Ph.D. degree in Synthetic Biology, Metabolic Engineering, Biological Engineering, Molecular Biology, or related fields. Preferably with 3 years of experience working in metabolic engineering in industrial settings or a similar environment. MSc with significant relevant experience will be considered.
  • Proficiency in advanced genetic engineering techniques and automation platforms for strain engineering and optimization.
  • Familiar with data analysis tools and AI-driven approaches for interpreting large datasets from high-throughput screenings.
  • Knowledge of high-throughput screening methodologies, library construction, and screening workflows.
  • Experience in developing and executing automated workflows and utilizing robotic systems is a plus.
  • Must be safety-oriented, self-motivated, and highly organized individuals.
  • Capable of adapting and working well in a collaborative, fast-paced work setting, contributing to a positive and inclusive team culture.
  • Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills in Chinese, preferably in English as well.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with colleagues.
