Job description

[What the role is]

School of Applied Science - Research Staff (Applied Chemistry/ Coatings Formulation)

[What you will be working on]

  • Work with the project leader and co-project leaders to achieve the aim of the research project.
  • Carry out research on formulation and characterization of sustainable barrier coatings for packaging materials.
  • Coordinate with external collaborators on project development.
  • Document, collate, analyze, and interpret data.
  • Handle procurement activities, including liaising with vendors, sourcing materials and equipment, testing, and raising purchase requests.
  • Track project issues, expenses, budgets, action logs, and maintain equipment.
  • Plan experiments and prepare progress reports for regular updates.
  • Supervise students involved in projects.
  • Perform any other related duties assigned by the project leaders.

[What we are looking for]

  • Relevant qualification in related science or engineering disciplines.
  • Experience in coating formulation science, coating characterization techniques, polymer chemistry, or packaging materials is an advantage.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build effective working relationships at all levels.
  • Good planning, organizing, multitasking skills, and a strong sense of responsibility to complete duties on time.
  • Proficiency in IT skills.
  • Excellent documentation, laboratory techniques, research, and data analysis skills.
  • The successful candidate will be employed on a contract basis.
