Job description

Project Description

CRecTech is a deep-tech spin-off from National University of Singapore (NUS). CRecTech has developed a novel catalytic technology that simplifies the operational process and production cost of converting biogas into bio-methanol, making renewable methanol fuel more affordable for the maritime sector to accelerate their transition toward net zero CO2 emissions. CRecTech is looking for a Process Engineer with expertise in catalysis research, process engineering, and manufacturing. As a key member of our team, you will lead R&D efforts at our pilot manufacturing facilities dedicated to green methanol production. Join us on our mission to revolutionise sustainable fuel solutions! This position is part of SGInnovate’s PowerX programme — a 12-month paid traineeship offering curated learning and industry exposure. Learn more at: https://www.sginnovate.com/power-x-talent

Key Responsibilities
  • Contribute to R&D efforts at our manufacturing pilot facilities, including:
  • Converting biogas or similar gas compositions into methanol.
  • Scaling up catalyst material production:
    Analysing energy and material balances.
    Evaluating process performance.
  • Implementing design modifications and improvements.
  • Documenting activities and data in detailed reports.
  • Assisting with engineering process design, simulation, and optimisation of chemical process modeling.
  • Developing enhanced processes for material handling, treatment, and storage.
  • Conducting characterisation and analysis of catalysts and the methanol produced.
  • Ensure all operations comply with regulatory and statutory requirements, with a focus on workplace health and safety. Collaborate with the safety officer and operations teams to prepare and maintain up-to-date risk assessments, safe work procedures, and method statements.
  • Organise and oversee the operations of the manufacturing pilot facility, ensuring maximum efficiency while minimising costs.
  • Conduct routine checks and process controls to ensure smooth operations, maintaining accurate records of all activities.
  • Maintain and improve housekeeping standards, ensuring waste, chemicals, product handling equipment, and designated areas are kept clean and organised.
  • Assist with additional tasks as assigned by the project manager or company management.

Project scope shall not be limited to the above. It may encompass other related tasks needed for the project/role assigned by the partner company.

Requirements
  • Degree or diploma in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing, or related fields. Prior work experience in manufacturing is a plus.
  • Completed relevant modules or coursework in chemical processes, with a strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, or similar subjects, is advantageous.
  • Hands-on experience in day-to-day safety checks, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of equipment or pilot facilities.
  • Experience in conducting catalytic reactions, as well as catalyst synthesis and characterisation, is preferred.
  • The ideal candidate should be skilled at working independently and in team settings, with a strong sense of self-motivation and a strong work ethic.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English, with the ability to effectively present and discuss research findings with team members and staff.
  • Able to work in challenging environments, including exposure to noise, dust, and heat at the manufacturing site.
