Job description

About the role

  • The Safety, Health and Environment Manager manages and coordinates all safety, health and environment programs, processes and activities to maintain a compliant and safe work environment. This role drives safety, health and environmental excellence across the site to achieve the best safety and sustainability results. The SHE Manager will develop the local strategy to deliver legal compliance and ensure the execution of BC Standards. This role will ensure the implementation of programs to drive the reduction of safety incidents and environmental harmful impacts. The SHE Manager leads and manages SHE-related incidents on-site. This role provides guidance and support on relevant SHE matters. The SHE Manager is a member of the Plant Management Team.

Key responsibilities include

  • Designs, maintains and leads the implementation of local health, safety, security and environmental management systems
  • Leads SHE incident management and drives management of relevant programs and actions relating to documented risks and or incident follow-up
  • Conducts SHE meetings, audits, and inspections to ensure compliance, evaluate performance, identify corrective action, and implement follow-up assessments.
  • Provides site employees, contractors and visitors with guidance on health, safety and security matters and ensures the site complies with Barry Callebaut, industry, local, and national guidelines and regulations.
  • Collaborates with management to develop an Emergency Action Plan and serve as primary contact for site SHE incident notification, investigation and case management.
  • Integrating occupational health and safety imperatives with business decision-making and risk management
  • Advising on engineering and maintenance practices to drive improvement of safe systems of working
  • Drive positive SHE culture through but not limited to: embedding the 10 BC Life Saving Principles, Gemba safety talks and training, and putting Safety first demonstrated by consistent management behaviors
  • Ensure SHE compliance is regularly audited, performance and risks are assessed and use the results to drive further improvement.
  • Ensure local SHE and facilities (eg, Petroleum and Flammable Material Storage License, etc.) licenses and certifications remain valid with local authorities.
  • Responsible for monitoring and measurement of SHE variables - SHE Scorecard

About you

  • Master degree in Science or Engineering or equivalent industrial experience
  • 5 to 10 years’ experience in a factory-based role: Safety, Health or Environment role, Operations, Continuous Improvement, Process Improvement or Quality
  • Registered with MOM as Workplace Safety and Health Officer and SCDF as Fire Safety Manager
  • Good knowledge of Singapore laws, regulation and codes of practice
  • Experience with SHE management systems and risk management
  • Experience with influencing behavioral change in a team/department
  • Project Management skills
  • Internal auditor or ISO auditor qualification a plus
  • Experience of Lean/TPM tools and ways of working a plus
  • Good working English required
  • Understand the requirements of relevant standard such as ISO 14001; ISO 45001 or OSHSAS 18001
