Job summary

Mistral AI is seeking an Applied AI Engineer focused on robotics deployment. You will take state-of-the-art AI models and make them work on real robots, in real environments, for real customers.

This hands-on role sits at the intersection of ML and physical systems, collaborating with robotics engineers, ML researchers, and systems engineers to deliver autonomous solutions across diverse use cases.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Mechatronics, Robotics, or a relevant discipline.
• Fluent in English with excellent communication skills.
• Strong software engineering in Python and/or C++, production-ready code.
• Knowledge of robotics frameworks such as ROS/ROS2.
• Experience with robot perception and state estimation (SLAM, localization, mapping, planning, sensor fusion).
• Solid mathematical fundamentals in geometry and probability; discerning handcrafted vs learned methods.
• Familiarity with simulation tools and robotics development environments (e.g., Isaac Sim, Gazebo).
• Strong problem-solving and interdisciplinary teamwork.
• Comfort with real-world hardware quirks and field surprises.

Responsibilities

• Integrate AI models with robotic hardware, sensors, and embedded systems.
• Improve robustness, reliability, and safety of robotic systems in real environments.
• Test and validate algorithms in simulation and real deployments.
• Analyze field data to improve model performance and system reliability.
• Tune autonomy stack — localization, mapping, navigation, perception — on real hardware.
• Develop and tune robot navigation behaviors — path planning and obstacle avoidance.
• Diagnose failures end-to-end and fix issues.
• Collaborate with robotics engineers and ML researchers to deliver end-to-end solutions.
• Build and maintain deployment tooling for monitoring and improvement.
