Job summary

The Barkery Singapore Pte Ltd is hiring a Retail Assistant for our Joo Chiat shop. You will greet customers, assist with product questions, process transactions, and ensure a tidy, well-stocked store.

You will handle deliveries, manage FIFO stock, prepare orders for pickup or delivery, and support daily shop operations. The role suits someone who is friendly, reliable, and comfortable with a POS system.

Previous retail or hospitality experience is desirable, and dog-loving applicants are welcome.

Responsibilities

• Greet customers warmly and provide friendly, knowledgeable assistance with questions about products, ingredients, suitability for different dogs, and order options.
• Process in-store transactions accurately and efficiently for card and digital payments.
• Handle customer enquiries by phone, email, or messaging channels in a professional and timely way.
• Resolve minor customer concerns on the spot where appropriate, and elevate more significant issues to the Strategy & Operations Lead.
• Build rapport with regular customers and learn their preferences over time.
• Receive deliveries from the kitchen and from external suppliers, checking quantities and quality against orders.
• Maintain shop-floor stock levels by replenishing displays throughout the day.
• Rotate stock to ensure older products are sold first (FIFO) and identify items approaching expiry.
• Prepare customer orders for collection or delivery, packing products carefully and accurately.
• Open and close the shop in accordance with standard procedures.

About the role

The Retail Assistant is the face of The Barkery for walk-in customers and order pick-ups at our Joo Chiat shop. The role combines warm, knowledgeable customer service with the day-to-day operations of the retail space - keeping the shop running smoothly, stock well-managed, and customers feeling looked after. It's a role where presentation, attention to detail, and a genuine love of what we do all matter.

About you

• Warm, friendly, and professional manner with customers
• Good spoken English; confident handling face-to-face customer interactions
• Reliable, punctual, and committed to scheduled hours
• Honest and trustworthy - the role involves handling customer payments and stock
• Attention to detail in handling transactions, stock, and order fulfilment
• Comfortable standing for extended periods and lifting moderate weights (up to 10kg)
• Ability to work calmly and patiently with a wide range of customers, including in busy periods or with difficult interactions
• Comfortable using a point-of-sale system, email, and messaging platforms
• Previous experience in retail, customer service, or hospitality (desirable)
• Genuine affinity for animals, particularly dogs (desirable)
