Job description

For the role of a Resident Physician, you will contribute to the Department of Otolaryngology in terms of clinical service and training. You will be immediately responsible for the total management of patients under the charge of the specialists.

Job Responsibilities

  • To perform at the same level of duties (including calls) and responsibilities (same roster) of a Medical Officer. Their competence will be individually assessed by the Head of Department (HOD) and thereby given clinical duties accordingly.
  • To assist, guide and supervise the House Officers in their duties, and review all new cases as soon as possible following admission and check on the House Officer's findings and notes
  • To write medical reports. Urgent reports should be prepared within a week and non-urgent reports within two weeks.
  • To ensure the accuracy and completion of the Hospital Inpatient Discharge Summary (HIDS) Forms and the diagnosis & disease index on the front sheet of the case records. In cases of difficulty, the Senior Medical Staff (Registrar and above) should be consulted.
  • To assist the Senior Medical Staff (Registrar and above) in the running of Specialist Outpatient Clinics, and should not make any major changes to the treatment regime or discharge long-term patients from follow up without the prior approval of the Senior Medical Staff.
  • To update relatives on patients' conditions.
  • To explain procedures to patients and their relatives, as well as obtaining consent for such cases, if so designated by their Senior Medical Staff.
  • To sign Death Certificates and obtain consent for autopsy of deceased patients.
  • To inform the Senior Medical Staff of any major problems and discharges against medical advice. They are permitted to counsel patients who wish to be discharged against medical advice.
  • To participate in the department's teaching activities as directed by the HOD.
  • To perform any other medical duties as directed by the senior medical staff in their respective departments, and should be prepared to cover the duties of junior doctors when the need arises.

Job Requirements

  • MBBS or post graduate qualification recognised by Singapore Medical Council;
  • At least 3 years’ of Medical Officer experience;
  • Able to perform independently in Department;
  • Highly adaptive and possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Must be able to do calls.
