Job description

The Polymer and Composite Processing Group invites applications for Research Scientist position to lead and conduct research in advanced polymer processing technologies, with a particular focus on advanced lightweight polymer component and multi-material component manufacturing for industrial application and translation.

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Work with a multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers to enhance the groups' capabilities in design and thermoforming for polymeric components
  • Develop research topics from the study of process-related issues, conduct root-cause-analysis of defects and failures, etc. so as to resolve manufacturing challenges through deep scientific understanding of materials and processes.
  • Innovate solutions to enhance polymer process technologies with the aim of improving lightweight performance and reducing embodied carbon footprint.
  • Formulate scientific research proposals aligned with the organization's mission and workplan to secure new competitive funding.
  • Prepare project proposals, technical presentations and reports for customers and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate strong domain knowledge in advanced manufacturing and be able to provide innovative solutions to industry problems.
  • Possess in-depth expertise in polymer and/or thermoplastic composite processing.
  • Deliver technology disclosures or patents of value to real applications in both industry and research projects.
  • Proficient in CAD and CAE tools, such as SolidWorks, with the ability to support both design and analysis tasks. Finite element simulation experience will be beneficial.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Ph.D inMechanical, Aerospace, Materials Science & Engineering or other relevant disciplines
  • Good track record of scientific publications in top journals or conferences
  • Excellent technical presentation and scientific writing skills.
  • Strong experimentalist equipped with some basic FE skills in process or structural simulation is preferred.
  • Prior experience in aviation quality management systems, regulations, product/process design and industry project delivery will be advantageous.
  • Confident in engaging with customers and vendors, including managing project negotiations and technical discussions.
