Job description

The Department of Sarcoma, Peritoneal and Rare Tumours (SPRinT) specialises in the surgical care of patients with advanced and rare cancers. We have a strong track record of advancing basic science, translational and health services research, and are currently developing a new research programme focused on surgical innovation. We are looking for an adventurous, creative, dynamic, meticulous and responsible Research Officer who will work closely with the Principal Investigator (PI) and a team of experienced collaborators on experiments related to image-guided cancer surgery. You will also have the opportunity to kick start new projects on cancer-related surgical innovation and global health oriented frugal innovation. You will provide critical administrative and experimental support that will enable the translation of our discoveries to clinical reality.

Responsibilities:
  1. Administrative: Assist the PI in writing applications for grants, IRB and regulatory approval. Maintain critical documentation and records for auditing / archival purposes. Ensure that all research activities are carried out in compliance with established protocols, standards, regulations, policies and laws.
  2. Experimental: Perform laboratory experiments to further elucidate the underlying mechanism of new image-guided surgical technologies. Work closely with collaborators on animal experiments aimed at optimising eventual clinical application of new image-guided surgical technologies. Work closely with the PI and collaborators on the collection, compilation and analysis of research data for publication. Collaborate on securing further grants to enable future research.
  3. To perform any other ad-hoc job-related duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
  1. Recognised Bachelor/Master’s Degree in bioengineering/biomedical science.
  2. Minimum 2 years experience in bioengineering or biomedical research.
  3. Excellent written and oral communication skills, e.g., publications, conference presentations.
  4. Competent with Microsoft Office and basic statistics.
  5. Keen to explore uncharted territories.
  6. Happy to engage with collaborators of different backgrounds.
  7. Versatile and can work well both independently and as part of a team.
  8. Able to work flexible hours.
  9. Inspired to pursue scientific innovation for better healthcare.
