Job description

The Laboratory of Surgical System & Service Innovation (3SI) is a multi-disciplinary laboratory that provides a platform for cutting-edge surgical health services research that informs healthcare systems, policies, and programs to provide high-value, patient-centered care for patients and their families undergoing surgery.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, dynamic, meticulous, and responsible Research Officer or Associate to work closely with a team of experienced researchers and the clinical team in health system, services innovation, and novel surgical technologies research.

You will be part of a holistic clinical and health services research team whose mission is to improve clinical outcomes for seriously ill patients in surgery.

Your role will focus on supporting the design, execution, and publication of high-impact surgical health services research, including studies on real-world surgical outcomes, patient-centered care, health equity, and cost-effectiveness.

Your Responsibilities Will Include
  1. Research Design & Execution: Design and lead health services and population health research projects, including cohort studies, qualitative or mixed-methods studies, implementational studies, and clinical trials.
  2. Apply statistical skills during research evaluation phases.
  3. Conduct qualitative or mixed-methods analysis.
  4. Participate in the implementation processes of research projects.
  5. Prepare IRB applications.
  6. Write manuscripts and present findings at local or international meetings.
  7. Support grant applications: formulate research ideas, conduct literature reviews, pilot studies, preliminary analyses, and assist with budgeting.
  8. Manage laboratory operations and oversee project management, including financial and manpower budgeting.
  9. Oversee the growth and development of junior team members.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline with at least 2 years of relevant experience, OR a Master’s in public health, clinical investigation, or implementation science.
  • Strong knowledge of quantitative and qualitative methods, health economic analysis, including cost-effectiveness and decision analysis.
  • Experience with basic and advanced statistical analysis.
  • Previous experience in health services research projects and grant submissions.
  • Good publication record.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Experience with machine learning methods is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team, motivated, responsible, and a fast learner.
  • Passionate about clinical and health service research to positively impact patients with advanced cancers.
