Job description

Job Title: Research Fellow (Nanophotonics, Applied Physics, 2D Materials); University-Level Unit: College of Design and Engineering; Faculty/Department-Level Unit: Electrical and Computer Engineering; Employee Category: Research Staff; Location_ONB: Kent Ridge Campus; Posting Start Date: 24/07/2026

Job Description

This position is dedicated to developing highly efficient on-chip multifunctional optoelectronic devices based on two-dimensional (2D) materials. Job responsibilities include the synthesis of 2D materials, the design and construction of optoelectronic devices, as well as characterization and testing. The main objectives include:

  • Controllable synthesis of high-quality 2D materials and characterization of their photoelectric properties. High-quality 2D materials can be controllably synthesized through various material preparation methods such as vapor deposition and solution methods, including 2D perovskites, chiral perovskites, and 2D transition metal chalcogenides, etc. Using structural characterization and photoelectric property detection to test the lattice quality and performance of the materials, and feeding back and optimizing the growth process.
  • Construct high-efficiency and ultra-compact on-chip optoelectronic devices based on high-quality 2D materials. By combining nanofabrication and van der Waals transfer technology to fabricate optoelectronic devices, systematic experiments are conducted to evaluate the performance parameters of the devices, such as light emission efficiency, photoelectric conversion coefficient, carrier mobility, and so on. Optimize the fabrication process and testing methods to achieve higher efficiency in photoelectric devices.
  • Coupling the metamaterials and photonic cavities to explore multi-functional optoelectronic devices based on 2D materials. By designing and fabricating high-quality metamaterials and photonic cavities, further coupling high-efficiency optoelectronic devices to achieve multi-functional applications, such as spin sources, spin detectors, and electrically pumped lasers, etc.

Considering the above research targets, the candidate should possess in-depth theoretical and experimental expertise and interdisciplinary knowledge in material preparation, nanophotonics, device fabrication and application. Candidate with practical experience in material synthesis, device fabrication and characterization is preferred.

Qualifications
  • PhD degree in materials science and engineering, photonics, optical engineering or a related field, with a solid background in nanophotonics, two-dimensional materials and optoelectronic devices.
  • Working experience and knowledge in the field of nanophotonics, 2D materials, nanofabrication and optoelectronic devices application.
  • Technical proficiency:
  • experience in controllably synthesizing a variety of high-quality 2D semiconductor materials;
  • technique and experience in designing and constructing high-efficiency multifunctional optoelectronic devices.
  • experimental experience in optical characterization, including nonlinear optics, Raman and photoluminescence measurements, time-resolved spectroscopy techniques, electroluminescence measurements.
  • nanofabrication skills for cavity fabrication, including electron-beam lithography, reactive-ion etching and electron-beam evaporation.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively within interdisciplinary teams.
  • Candidate should have strong publication records in reputed International Journals in the field of nanophotonics and 2D materials.
  • Open to Fixed Term Contract.
