SIT, as a University of Applied Learning, collaborates closely with industry in research pursuits. Our research staff will develop applied research skills relevant to industry demands through participation in research projects at SIT.

The primary responsibility of this role is to deliver an industry innovation research project. The successful candidate will be part of a team leading wave and hydrodynamic modeling to study the impact of mangroves and seagrass on coastal dynamics and sediment transportation. Expertise in wave modeling software, particularly DHI MIKE, is essential. The role involves advancing understanding of how mangroves and seagrass influence wave attenuation and sediment transport.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage research projects in collaboration with Principal Investigator (PI), Co-PI, and team members to meet all deliverables.
  • Utilize DHI MIKE software for developing and validating models related to wave propagation, hydrodynamics, and sediment transport.
  • Validate models using historical data.
  • Analyze coastal and ocean wave data to improve model accuracy.
  • Conduct research on wave and hydrodynamic modeling, focusing on environmental impacts of mangroves and seagrass.
  • Assess impacts of mangroves and seagrass on coastal regions, dynamics, and sediment transport.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including hydrodynamic researchers, coastal engineers, and marine scientists.
  • Prepare research publications and present findings at conferences.
  • Ensure safety, compliance, and carry out risk assessments.
  • Coordinate procurement and liaise with vendors.
  • Operate and maintain research equipment independently and within teams.
  • Assist in supervising Final Year Projects or capstone projects with the PI.
Job Requirements
  • PhD or Master’s degree in coastal engineering, oceanography, or hydrodynamics.
  • Proficiency in DHI MIKE wave modeling software.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Research experience in coastal and ocean wave modeling is preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
