Job summary

The National University of Singapore, located at Kent Ridge Campus in Singapore, invites applications for a Research Engineer (Materials Characterization) in the Mechanical Engineering unit. The role centers on operating the Invizo 6000 APT system and managing day-to-day facility operations.

You will train users, prepare specimens, analyze datasets, and contribute to SOP development, safety, and data interpretation across multidisciplinary projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's/Master's/PhD in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Physics or related field.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities; good communication and lab management.
• Ability to work independently while supporting multidisciplinary research.
• Experience with atom probe tomography, FIB, electron microscopy or related techniques is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Operate the Invivo 6000 APT system to ensure safe, reliable instrument performance.
• Manage day-to-day facility operations including user scheduling, booking, and lab access.
• Perform routine maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and coordinate vendor repairs.
• Prepare and characterize specimens for APT analysis, including FIB prep when applicable.
• Provide technical support and training to students and researchers on APT operation and data acquisition.
• Process, reconstruct, and analyze APT datasets and assist users in interpretation.
• Develop SOPs and best practices for APT experiments and maintain safety/docs.
• Support collaborative research projects and contribute to reports, publications, and grant proposals.
• Promote facility usage through workshops and outreach activities.
