Job summary

The Singapore Institute of Technology's Future Communications Translation Lab (FCTLab) is seeking a Research Engineer/Fellow to advance 5G/6G research into practical prototypes. You will collaborate with faculty and industry partners to translate lab findings into demonstrators and industry-ready software.

You will design, develop, and integrate software, work with sensors, cameras and AI models, and help validate use cases on private testbeds.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of software development and systems design experience.
• Bachelor’s: Master’s or PhD in ECE/CS or related field.
• Strong Python and C++ skills for translating use-case requirements into software.
• Knowledge of wireless communications (5G/LTE, Wi‑Fi) and related lab prototyping.
• Hardware–software integration with sensors, actuators, cameras via REST/Websocket.
• Networking fundamentals (TCP/UDP/IP, VPN) and related tooling (Wireshark, iperf).
• Experience with Linux tooling and video processing/AI integration is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Understand use-case requirements, assess feasibility and propose system architectures.
• Develop proof-of-concept applications and working prototypes from research outputs.
• Integrate software with devices, sensors, actuators and cameras; include AI/video processing where relevant.
• Design and run functional and performance tests; troubleshoot and refine prototypes.
• Plan development activities with PI/Co-PI; coordinate with vendors when outsourcing work.
• Prepare software documentation, technical reports and demonstration materials.
• Mentor students and researchers on software development, integration and testing.
