Job Description

The Neuroscience and Behavioural Disorders (NBD) Programme focuses on understanding the structure and function of the nervous system, as well as the neural mechanisms underlying human neurological, psychiatric, and eye disorders.

The Translational Neuroscience Group, led by Professor Vincenzo De Paola at Duke-NUS Medical School (link), is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Research Associate with a strong research background.

This role offers an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team at Duke-NUS to advance research and education. The successful candidate will perform various research activities under the supervision of the Principal Investigator, including:

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead in vivo xenotransplantation and imaging projects.
  • Validate ASO targets for Down syndrome projects.
Research Execution & Design
  • Plan, design, and perform experiments within a defined research area under PI supervision.
  • Conduct literature reviews and develop research protocols.
  • Troubleshoot and optimize experimental workflows independently.
Data Management & Analysis
  • Collect, process, and analyze experimental data.
  • Maintain accurate records and databases.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and visualizations.
Scientific Communication
  • Contribute to writing and editing manuscripts, grant applications, and patents.
  • Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals, including independent submissions.
Lab Leadership & Training
  • Guide students and research assistants.
  • Conduct lab demonstrations and training sessions.
  • Assist with project coordination and resource management.
Job Requirements
  • Master's Degree in Neuroscience, Molecular Biology, or related disciplines.
  • Minimum 4 years of hands-on laboratory experience with in vivo models.
  • Expertise in stereotaxic surgeries.
  • Strong molecular biology skills (qPCR, Western blot, IHC/IF) and experience with ASO therapeutics validation preferred.
  • Ability to design and optimize complex in vivo experiments.
  • Experience in behavioral phenotyping and tissue processing.
  • Experience maintaining detailed surgical records and compliance documentation.
  • Knowledge of ethical guidelines for animal research.
  • Demonstrated research independence.
  • Strong writing, critical thinking, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work harmoniously in a team and maintain professional relationships.
