The Role

The Sustainable and Green Finance Institute (SGFIN) is a new university-level research institute at the National University of Singapore (NUS), jointly supported by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) and NUS. SGFIN aims to develop deep research capabilities in sustainable and green finance, provide thought leadership in the sustainability space, and shape sustainability outcomes across the financial sector and the economy at large.

This role is ideal for individuals interested in academic or industry research in the financial sector, especially in sustainable, responsible, and green investing and valuation. Responsibilities include designing and developing frameworks to analyze corporate sustainability efforts and performance, supporting decision-making in various sectors.

There are no teaching obligations, and the candidate will have opportunities to develop their research portfolio.

Responsibilities

  • Design research projects in collaboration with the Institute's Directors and Research Affiliates.
  • Ensure successful delivery of research projects within deadlines and budgets, meeting specifications and targets.
  • Identify resources, prepare high-level project plans, and coordinate project activities.
  • Develop research hypotheses and perform data collection and analysis of financial and sustainability disclosures.
  • Analyze government policies and regulations related to sustainability.
  • Extend existing frameworks to develop comprehensive models through qualitative and quantitative analyses.
  • Monitor project progress and ensure quality of deliverables.
  • Manage stakeholder collaborations, providing updates and managing expectations.
  • Prepare results for industry communications, presentations, and academic publications.
  • For Research Fellow roles: supervise research analysts and associates.
  • Collaborate with the SGFIN team to support the institute’s objectives.

Requirements

  • Educational background in finance, economics, sustainability, or related fields; a bachelor’s degree is required, master’s preferred, and a PhD for Research Fellow roles.
  • Understanding of the financial sector, markets, financial statements, and credit risk analysis.
  • Knowledge of sustainable economics or finance is highly preferred.
  • Proficiency in quantitative analysis, econometrics, and statistical software; experience with empirical research methods.
  • Proactive problem solver with good time management and project management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deliver results on time.
  • Adaptive, positive attitude, self-driven, and initiative-taking.
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills, both verbal and written.
