ASIA RESEARCH INSTITUTE
The Asia Research Institute (ARI), National University of Singapore (NUS), invites applications forTWO Research Associates/Assistantsto join the research team for the project “Perspectives on Identity, Nationality, Diasporic Affinities, and Home” (PINDAH), directed by Dr. Erica M. Larson (PI) and Dr. Bittiandra Chand Somaiah (co-PI).
This project aims to understand the social construction of belonging from the perspective of the Indonesian diaspora in Singapore and investigate how it is related to various aspects of identity and participation in various (trans)local and digital networks.
The successful applicant will be offered a fixed-term contract of 18 months from the date of hire, likely in April/May 2025. They will receive an attractive monthly remuneration depending on experience and qualifications. The position will be based in Singapore.
Singapore citizens and permanent residents are eligible for central provident fund benefits.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The Research Associates/Assistants will work closely with the PIs and research team to achieve the project objectives. They will be responsible for record-keeping, data management, and communication among the research team. They will also be expected to assist in conducting qualitative research (interviews) and transcribing the project interviews and to contribute to regular project reports.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
The ideal candidate will have an MA (or BA/BS) in anthropology, Asian studies, geography, sociology, or a related discipline, and an interest in contributing to a project with research questions related to the topics of identity, social belonging, home-making, migration and/or diaspora.They should be comfortable communicating in both English and Bahasa Indonesia as they will be required to conduct interviews in both Bahasa and English.
