Job description

This project is with Greenitio, a startup supported by SGInnovate under the PowerX Programme. PowerX is a 12-months traineeship programme designed to enable and create Deep Tech career opportunities for working professionals, combing bespoke training and industry experience.

Greenitio develops bio-based chitosan derivative solutions to replace microplastics in cosmetics, personal care, food, and packaging. Using our proprietary functionalisation process, we transform chitosan into high-performance, biodegradable alternatives to synthetic polymers. Our innovation enhance natural ingredients, improve formulation stability, and deliver advanced bioactive benefits—enabling more effective and sustainable solutions across beauty, home care, and packaging.

Greenitio is seeking a Research Associate to join our R&D team and contribute to the development of novel chitosan-based biomaterials. The role will focus on the chemical modification and functionalisation of chitosan, with an emphasis on building new intellectual property (IP) and enabling high-performance applications in cosmetics, personal care, and beyond.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and execute research focused on the chemical functionalisation and performance enhancement of chitosan and related biopolymers.
• Lead synthesis, purification, and analytical workflows, applying relevant techniques to evaluate material performance across applications.
• Develop and refine application-relevant prototypes, supporting performance benchmarking across cosmetics, personal care, and other sectors.
• Contribute to formulation and application testing, including sample preparation for internal evaluation and external customer trials.
• Maintain comprehensive and high-quality documentation of experimental procedures, results, and observations to support IP, scale-up, and product development.
• Contribute to Greenitio’s core IP, helping to identify novel molecular designs and expand the company's patent portfolio.
• Work closely with the CTO and commercial teams to translate lab-scale discoveries into industry-ready materials for strategic partners.
• Collaborate with international cosmetics and specialty chemical companies, contributing to or co-leading joint development projects that apply Greenitio’s biomolecular platforms in real-world formulations.

Project scope shall not be limited to the above. It may encompass other related tasks needed for the project/role assigned by the partner company.
