Job description

As a Research Centre under the NUS Yong Loo Lin School Department of Psychological Medicine and the National University Health System, Yeo Boon Khim Mind Science Centre undertakes various research, including mental health research across the age continuum to translate outcomes into effective, scalable interventions in Singaporean and Asian communities. This research position provides an opportunity to engage with and conduct translational mental health research concerning children, adolescents, and emerging adults.

Main studies: As a Research Assistant, you will be involved in multiple research projects, including:

  1. The Youth Epidemiology and Resilience (YEAR) 2.0 Study, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, aims to conduct a survey on the mental health state, resilience, and various protective and risk factors in a nationally representative sample of 3000-4000 Singaporean adolescents aged 10-18 years. The study also aims to estimate the prevalence of autism spectrum disorder in adolescents within the national curriculum (ASD-NC). Two school-based interventions are currently being developed to support mental health needs: (1) a resilience intervention targeting students with low resilience and high mental distress; and (2) a socio cognitive intervention that aims to improve theory of mind and cognitive flexibility in ASD-NC adolescents with high mental distress.
  2. The Youth and Emerging Adults (YEA) Study investigates the challenges and experiences faced by emerging adults (aged 18 to 30 years) in university and post-university environments. This study aims to identify factors that can improve the wellbeing and potential of this age group. Preliminary data collection has been completed, and the study is currently in the data analysis phase.
  3. A study focusing on the local validation of the efficacy and utility of a Voice Artificial Intelligence platform for depression screening and diagnosis on emerging adults aged 18-25. This study is in collaboration between the National University Health System, the Centre for Healthcare Innovation Start-Up Enterprise Link, and Wonder Technology.
