Job summary

KHOO TECK PUAT HOSPITAL PTE. LTD. is seeking a Research Assistant to assist in biobanking and sample management activities for various research projects. The ideal candidate should have a minimum Diploma in Biomedical Science or equivalent, with experience as a Research Assistant preferred. Primary responsibilities include managing specimens, maintaining accurate records, and performing tasks such as DNA extraction. This role involves active participation in educational programmes, ensuring a safe environment, and supporting investigators with administrative duties.

Responsibilities

• Biobank specimens collected from various research studies.
• Maintain and track stock level of specimens-related consumables.
• Regularly check specimens are stored at correct temperature range.
• Plan and accommodate freezer space allocation for studies.
• Retrieve specimens from storage as requested.
• Maintain and update specimen volume catalogues.
• Perform study-specific bench work such as DNA extraction.
• Maintain a clean and safe environment for research specimens.
• Participate in department's education programmes.
• Assist investigators in simple administrative reports.

Job description

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

To assist investigators in performing biobanking and sample management activities for PI initiated research projects.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Biobank specimens (e.g. blood, urine) collected from participants in various research studies.
2. Maintain and track stock level of specimens-related consumables and place orders when necessary.
3. Regularly check and ensure specimens are stored at correct temperature range.
4. Plan and accommodate freezer space allocation for new incoming studies when requested by investigators.
5. Retrieve specimens from storage as and when requested by investigators.
6. Maintain and update specimen volume catalogues to ensure accuracy.
7. Plan, aliquot, and advise on large-scale specimens matters.
8. Perform study-specific bench work such as DNA extraction and ELISA tests in accordance with prescribed work procedures.
9. Maintain and ensure a clean and safe environment for research specimens.
10. Participate in department's education programmes (e.g. Journal Club).
11. Assist investigators in simple administrative reports.
12. Any other duties as assigned by Senior Research Officer.
