The Research Assistant will support Principal Investigators and the research team in the conduct of clinical research studies within the Speech Therapy Department. The role involves participant recruitment, data collection and management, coordination of multi-centre research activities, and administrative support to ensure studies are conducted in compliance with ethical and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Research Support
- Assist Principal Investigators and study teams in the planning, coordination, and implementation of clinical research studies.
- Support the conduct of research activities in accordance with study protocols, institutional policies, and ethical guidelines.
- Liaise with relevant internal and external stakeholders, including clinicians, researchers, hospital departments, and collaborating institutions.
Participant Recruitment and Data Collection
- Identify, approach, and obtain informed consent from potential research participants.
- Collect speech samples and other relevant participant information according to study protocols.
- Administer and collect outcome measures from research participants.
- Maintain accurate and complete study documentation and records.
Study Coordination
- Coordinate and schedule participant assessments and data collection activities across multiple study sites.
- Perform participant randomisation into experimental and control groups as required by study protocols.
- Facilitate communication between investigators, ethics boards, collaborators, and key stakeholders.
Data Management
- Enter, verify, and maintain research data in study databases and data management systems.
- Ensure research data are accurate, complete, and managed confidentially in accordance with applicable regulations and institutional requirements.
- Assist with data cleaning, tracking, and preparation for analysis.
Administrative Support
- Prepare study-related documents, reports, and correspondence.
- Support ethics submissions, study monitoring activities, and regulatory documentation where required.
- Perform other research-related and administrative duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
Education
- Bachelor's degree, preferably in a healthcare-related discipline.
Experience and Skills
- Interest in clinical research and healthcare-related projects.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with research participants and healthcare professionals.
- Good organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and timelines.
- Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining accurate records.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and data management systems.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in clinical research, healthcare, or participant-facing roles.
- Familiarity with research ethics, informed consent procedures, and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines.
- Experience working with speech, language, or communication-related populations would be advantageous.
Work Location:
Primarily at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital (NTFGH) and Jurong Community Hospital (JCH), with occasional deployment to National University Hospital (NUH) and Alexandra Hospital (AH) as required.
