Job Description

Prof Chng Wee Joo's laboratory at Cancer Science Institute of Singapore is seeking a highly motivated Research Assistant to support translational research in haematologic malignancies, including multiple myeloma (MM), acute myeloid leukemia (AML), and natural killer/T-cell lymphoma (NKTL). The candidate will assist in conducting high-throughput genomics and proteomics research, contributing to the discovery of novel prognostic markers, therapeutic targets, and the molecular mechanisms driving disease progression and drug resistance. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work in a cutting-edge research environment and contribute to impactful bench-to-bedside translational research.

More information about Professor Chng's research focuses is available here.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Execute molecular and cellular biology experiments, including DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, qPCR, Western blotting, and immunohistochemistry to support research projects.
  2. Assist in next-generation sequencing (NGS) library preparation and contribute to bioinformatics analysis to interpret genomic data.
  3. Validate genomic and proteomic findings using human tumor samples and model systems in pre-clinical research settings.
  4. Maintain a tissue bank and clinical database to facilitate research activities and data management.
  5. Conduct cell culture and functional assays, such as cell viability, apoptosis, and drug response assays, to evaluate experimental outcomes.
  6. Analyze gene expression and pathways to identify novel diagnostic subtypes and prognostic factors.
  7. Support research publications and grant applications through literature reviews and data analysis.
  8. Ensure adherence to laboratory safety protocols and maintain accurate experimental records for documentation and analysis.
Qualifications
  1. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Life Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, Molecular Biology, or a related field.
  2. Hands-on experience in molecular biology, genomics, and proteomics techniques is preferred.
  3. Familiarity with bioinformatics tools for genomic and transcriptomic analysis is a plus.
  4. Experience in working with human clinical samples and cell culture techniques is advantageous.
  5. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
  6. Excellent organizational, communication, and teamwork skills.
  7. Ability to work independently in a fast-paced research environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
  1. Prior research experience in haematological malignancies, cancer biology, or precision medicine.
  2. Knowledge of computational biology and statistical methods for genomics data analysis.
  3. Experience in handling sequencing platforms (e.g., Illumina, Nanopore) and data interpretation.
