Job description

The Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health, National University of Singapore (NUS), invites applications for a full-time Research Assistant/Associate position to support a research project on community capacity-building for health and resilience.

This project investigates how local communities can mobilise resources, networks, and local leaders to co-create communities of care, particularly among ageing populations. Using mixed-methods and participatory approaches, the research aims to identify key enablers and barriers of community-capacity building for health, develop assessment frameworks, and generate policy recommendations to enhance health and social care integration and grow place-based models of care.

Candidates will have the opportunity to engage with local and regional community health initiatives and apply research to drive meaningful impact. They will also gain valuable exposure to a larger interdisciplinary team committed to community development efforts that enhance the well-being of older adults and other population groups.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Conduct literature reviews, case studies, and qualitative interviews.
  2. Collect and analyse quantitative and qualitative data to assess good practices and strategies for community capacity-building.
  3. Develop and validate assessment tools and frameworks for measuring community capacity-building efforts.
  4. Work closely with the Principal Investigator (PI) to design research proposals, obtain ethics approval, develop project plans, and track deliverables.

Project Management & Stakeholder Engagement

  1. Engage with funders, donors, policymakers, and community organisations to ensure research relevance and impact.
  2. Facilitate workshops, focus groups, and participatory research sessions to co-develop solutions with communities.
  3. Translate research findings into practical insights and policy recommendations for community-based health interventions.

Knowledge Management & Dissemination

  1. Synthesise findings into reports, policy briefs, and academic publications.
  2. Contribute to knowledge-sharing activities, including conference presentations and community engagement forums.
  3. Develop capacity-building frameworks, toolkits, and checklists to scale successful community health initiatives.

Additional Information

  1. This is a full-time position based at NUS.
  2. The grade of appointment will be accorded based on candidate’s academic qualifications and years of relevant experience.
