Key Responsibilities
  • Perform fabrication using Laser powder-bed fusion systems (Adequate training will be provided).
  • Perform metallurgical sample preparation of metal additively manufactured specimens, including sectioning, mounting, grinding, polishing, and etching.
  • Conduct microstructural characterisation using optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD).
  • Assist in materials analysis, interpretation of microstructural features, and documentation of experimental results.
  • Support mechanical and metallurgical testing activities related to metal additive manufacturing research projects.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment, ensure proper calibration and safe operation of characterisation facilities, and support general laboratory management activities.
  • Assist in experimental planning, sample tracking, data collection, and preparation of technical reports, presentations, and research publications.
  • Collaborate closely with researchers, students, and industrial partners to support ongoing research and development activities in advanced manufacturing and materials engineering.
  • Experience in technical documentation, preparation of research reports, or contribution towards intellectual property development such as technical disclosures and laboratory know-how will be advantageous.
Job Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree or above in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience in metallurgical sample preparation, materials characterisation, and microscopy techniques such as optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) is highly advantageous.
  • Knowledge of metal additive manufacturing processes such as Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF) and Directed Energy Deposition (DED) will be preferred.
  • Familiarity with metallurgical analysis, microstructural interpretation, and materials testing techniques is advantageous.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in an interdisciplinary research environment.
