Job description

Position Overview

The Asia-Pacific journalist will play a critical role within the IJGlobal team, driving a dynamic and fast-paced news beat. The successful candidate will take charge of covering the rapidly growing energy and infrastructure markets in the APAC region, tracking key developments and major projects. This is an exciting opportunity to report on the financing of crucial projects that shape the future of this diverse region.

As a journalist for IJGlobal – Infrastructure Journal – you will be expected to write business news articles with tight, rolling deadlines throughout the day, building a strong network of high-level industry contacts through regular communication (including investors, developers, bankers, lawyers, and regulators). IJGlobal has an established presence in the region, with a constantly evolving network of contacts.

This news beat covers some of the most active greenfield and brownfield infrastructure and energy projects, driven by leading global companies and financed by major institutions. These projects have significant local impact and global importance.

Beyond daily news reporting, the journalist will also produce insightful analysis and contribute to case studies, while supporting the data team as needed.

Job Responsibilities
  • Pitching and writing at least 4 news stories a day, the majority of which are exclusives
  • Write news stories and features leveraging IJGlobal’s data
  • Maintaining broad and high-level contact with the market through daily telephone calls and frequent face-to-face/virtual meetings
  • Collaborating with other team members and other functions
Candidate Profile
  • Excellent written English
  • Other languages (preferred) including Mandarin, Bahasa, Japanese or Korean
  • Minimum 2-3 years’ experience as a financial journalist
  • Strong reporting and interviewing skills
  • Infrastructure project finance knowledge/experience would be advantageous but is not a necessity
  • Able to network well and build a strong book of contacts
  • Willing to make cold calls
  • Efficient, organised and able to meet deadlines
  • Team player
  • Strong communicator
  • Able to work well under pressure
Compensation, Benefits and Work Authorization

In addition to a base salary, this position is eligible for a performance bonus and benefits (subject to eligibility requirements). Total compensation is based on several factors including, but not limited to, type of position, location, education level, work experience, and certifications. This information is applicable for all full-time positions.
