Job description

General Summary

The Specialist, Regulatory is responsible for ensuring Michelman is compliant with applicable hazard communication and Dangerous Goods regulations for all APAC countries in which Michelman does business.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure regulatory compliance of Michelman products with applicable hazard communication regulations, author GHS Safety Data Sheet (SDS) and product labels via WERCS for the APAC region
  • Ensure compliance with APAC Dangerous Goods (DG) compliance for finished goods
  • Evaluate and assign HS Codes to products and work with the Global Import / Export Specialist in the United States to identify and resolve issues
  • Support new product registrations and ensure compliance with hazardous chemical registration requirements (e.g., China NRCC, Korea CCA and Thailand Hazardous Chemicals).
  • Assist with China and Japan Food Contact Material (FCM) compliance review to ensure regulatory adherence for Michelman products in these markets. • Respond to regulatory requests from internal and external customers
  • Write or update standard operating procedures, work instructions, or policies as needed
  • Develop or conduct regulatory training to stakeholders as needed
  • Monitor and stay abreast of emerging regulatory trends and best practices in Hazard Communication, DG in APAC, conduct impact assessment and advise appropriate stakeholders
  • Support internal / external audits and implement corrective actions as appropriate
  • Participate in meetings with customers, raw material suppliers, government agencies as needed
  • Lead or participate in projects as assigned
  • Assist with other regulatory tasks as required, i.e. volume tracking, new chemical registration, raw material/product reviews, etc.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, regulatory law, environmental compliance or other related major required
  • 3 – 7 years of regulatory experience
  • Experience with SDS authoring in WERCS
  • Training in DG regulations (ADR, IATA, and IMDG)
  • Experience with HS code classifications
  • Ability to prepare, analyze and summarize large amounts of data in Excel
  • Experience working in a manufacturing setting
  • Experience working in a global regulatory team

Work Hours

Michelman’s standard work hours for this role are Monday – Friday from 8 am – 5 pm EST.
