Role Summary
The Regional Compute Engineer is responsible for managing and administering compute areas, including infrastructure servers, cloud instances, and application servers. This role ensures optimal performance, security, and reliability of systems, while collaborating with various teams to integrate compute infrastructure with existing systems and applications.
Role & Responsibilities
- Responsible for the administration of compute areas including infrastructure servers, cloud instances, application servers, storage, data centers, backup, and disaster recovery. Ensure resources are efficiently utilized and maintained.
- Collaborate with compute lead, solution teams, and other stakeholders to integrate compute infrastructure with existing systems and applications.
- Manage and administer various server OS, roles, and features across Windows and non-Windows platforms, including server roles, cloud systems, update servers, and application servers.
- Manage global identity and permissions, conduct periodic user access audits, and maintain comprehensive records to ensure security and compliance.
- Monitor and analyze compute resource utilization, identify opportunities for optimization and capacity planning, and implement performance tuning measures to improve server performance, reliability, and efficiency.
- Conduct load testing and benchmarking to validate compute infrastructure performance under various workloads.
- Oversee daily compute operations, maintenance, and troubleshooting, with a strong understanding of server issues and analysis, providing recommendations for improvements.
- Implement security controls and measures to protect compute infrastructure from unauthorized access, malware, and other threats.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards related to compute security; perform regular security assessments and apply best practices.
- Respond to incidents and service requests related to compute infrastructure, diagnosing and resolving issues promptly.
- Escalate complex problems to the compute lead, reporting manager, or vendors as needed, following established incident management procedures.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to develop team competencies in compute areas, including automation and cloud technologies.
- Participate in audit exercises, ensure processes are followed, and documentation is up to date to comply with internal and external audits.
- Contribute to disaster recovery planning and participate in disaster response activities.
- Recommend compute optimizations, including cost management for outsourced applications and systems. Prepare technical proposals for system upgrades, hardware changes, cloud resource proposals, and ongoing maintenance costs.
- Maintain reports on compute operations and performance, assisting the compute lead in keeping management informed.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in IT, compute, or system administration roles.
- Good knowledge of server management, OS, Active Directory, DNS, policies, and Windows protocols.
- Proficiency in cloud technologies—hybrid, private, or public cloud.
- Experience supporting MNC environments or within the APAC region is a plus.
- Knowledge of compute planning and resource management.
- Proficiency in scripting, OS patching, and reporting.
- Understanding of server, system, application, network, and security aspects of compute landscapes is advantageous.
- Strong problem-solving skills, effective communication, and a customer-centric approach.
- Relevant certifications such as Microsoft, Azure, AWS, ITIL are preferred.
- Experience with zero-trust endpoint security, cloud security, and M365 compliance features.
- Experience in crisis management and coordination is a plus.
- Professional certifications like A+, CompTIA, ITILv4, M365, or Azure Endpoint are advantageous.
