Job description

Quantity surveyors serve as the cost managers of construction. They play a crucial role throughout all project phases, starting with the preparation of a project's capital expenditure and continuing through operational maintenance and demolition of a facility.

Quantity surveyors are responsible for managing all aspects of the contractual and financial side of construction projects. Their main goal is to manage costs and ensure that the construction project is completed within its projected budget.

Responsibilities include:

1. Forecast the cost of materials needed for the project
2. Prepare tender documents, contracts, budgets, bills of quantities, and other documentation
3. Track design and construction changes and adjust budget projections accordingly
4. Procure or negotiate with contractors and subcontractors
5. Measure and value work done on site
6. Manage payments to subcontractors
7. Coordinate with clients and other construction professionals such as site managers, project managers, and site engineers
8. Source and select construction materials
9. Write reports
