A leading company in construction engineering seeks a knowledgeable Quantity Surveyor to manage cost estimation and tendering processes on major projects. Candidates should possess strong negotiation skills and a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field to engage effectively in financial and contractual discussions. The role emphasizes leadership and proactive cost management, aimed at delivering projects within budget and timeline constraints.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prepare cost estimates, bills of quantities (BOQs), and budgets for construction projects.
Manage tendering processes, including preparing tender documents and evaluating bids.
Monitor project costs and track variations to ensure the project stays within budget.
Conduct site measurements and valuations for interim payments and final accounts.
Liaise with contractors, clients, and consultants on cost-related issues.
Assist in contract administration, including reviewing contracts and managing claims.
PERSONAL COMPETENCIES:
Leadership and mentoring abilities (for SQS) to guide the QS team.
Critical thinking and decision-making skills to manage cost-related risks.
Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
Proactive in identifying and addressing financial challenges in the project.
TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
Proficiency in cost estimation, tendering, and contract management.
Strong knowledge of construction contracts (e.g., FIDIC, JCT) and dispute resolution.
Familiarity with cost management software (e.g., CostX, BIM, Microsoft Excel).
Experience in preparing BOQs and cost plans for large-scale projects.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
Comprehensive understanding of construction methodologies, procurement processes, and building regulations.
Ability to manage budgets, forecasts, and cost reporting accurately.
Strong negotiation and contract administration skills.
Knowledge of value engineering and risk management in construction projects.
MAJOR STUDY / SPECIALIST (EDUCATION):
Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
