Job summary

Yew Chew Construction Pte Ltd is seeking a Purchaser to join the team at our Paya Lebar East Region office on a full-time basis. You will play a vital role in sourcing, negotiating and procuring materials and services essential to our construction operations, ensuring smooth supply and cost control.

You will coordinate with suppliers, manage purchase orders, track shipments, and support inventory management while maintaining accurate procurement records for audit and compliance.

Qualifications

• Diploma or higher qualification in business, procurement, supply chain management or a related field is desirable.
• Proven experience as a Purchaser or in a similar procurement role, ideally within the construction sector.
• Strong negotiation and supplier management skills are essential.

Responsibilities

• Identify and source suitable suppliers and vendors for construction materials and services.
• Prepare and issue purchase orders with accurate specifications, quantities, and delivery terms.
• Negotiate pricing, payment terms, and delivery schedules to achieve cost savings.
• Maintain relationships with existing suppliers and evaluate performance.
• Monitor inventory levels and coordinate with operations to ensure stock availability.
• Track shipments and ensure timely receipt of materials.
• Process invoices and resolve discrepancies between POs, receipts, and invoices.

About the role

We are seeking a Purchaser to join our team at our Paya Lebar East Region office on a full-time basis. This is a strategic position within our purchasing, procurement and inventory management function, playing a vital role in ensuring the smooth supply of materials and services essential to our construction operations. As a Purchaser, you will be responsible for sourcing, negotiating and procuring a wide range of materials and services that are critical to our business success. Your contributions will directly impact our operational efficiency, cost management and supplier relationships.

Key responsibilities

• Identifying and sourcing suitable suppliers and vendors for construction materials and services
• Preparing and issuing purchase orders, ensuring accuracy of specifications, quantities and delivery terms
• Negotiating pricing, payment terms and delivery schedules with suppliers to achieve cost savings and optimal value
• Maintaining relationships with existing suppliers and evaluating their performance based on quality, reliability and service
• Monitoring inventory levels and coordinating with operations teams to ensure adequate stock availability
• Tracking shipments and following up on deliveries to ensure timely receipt of materials
• Processing invoices and resolving discrepancies between purchase orders, receipts and supplier invoices
• Maintaining accurate procurement records and documentation for audit and compliance purposes
• Communicating with internal stakeholders regarding procurement status, delays and any supply chain challenges
• Identifying opportunities for process improvements and cost reductions in procurement activities

What we're looking for

• Proven experience as a Purchaser or in a similar procurement role, ideally within the construction sector.
• Strong negotiation skills with the ability to secure competitive pricing and favourable terms
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build and maintain effective supplier relationships
• Proficiency in procurement systems and Microsoft Office applications
• Sound knowledge of inventory management principles and practices
• Attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple purchase orders and deadlines simultaneously
• A proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to identify and implement cost-saving opportunities
• Strong organisational and time management abilities
• Basic understanding of supply chain management and logistics
• Diploma or higher qualification in business, procurement, supply chain management or a related field is desirable
