How you will create an impact
To lead the technical management and oversight of the Property, Energy and Construction claims portfolio for Asia.This would include, managing a team of ‘Severity’ level claims adjusters, acting as an escalation point for claims technical matters and overseeing a framework for identification and management of severity claims within Asia. Lead engagement with APAC Business Leads and International/ Global Claims Management for the Property, Construction and Energy portfolio. All the while ensuring the technical development of AIG Claims throughout Asia. Additionally, to support the Head of Claims APAC in the wider strategic management of the Property Construction & Energy claims response across the region, acting as thought leader to both internal and external stakeholders.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Functional Responsibilities:
- Oversee the management of all major loss claims in Asia to include:-
- Manage the allocation of claims to the best technical experts within country and/or within the major loss team;
- Developing appropriate management plans for major loss claims leveraging capabilities located within both country and major loss teams;
- Manage the tracking and reporting on major loss claims;
- Oversee all Claims valued at more than$100,000 in which are subject to a Coverage Dispute
- Provide a technical escalation point for all claims examiners in Asia.
- Review and resolve all coverage inquiries or technical support requests from country teams.
- Keep the Head of Claims APAC advised of key major loss developments and wider portfolio trends.
- Be a key Property & Energy Claims contact for Global, Regional and Country Property & Energy claims colleagues and other senior stakeholders.
- Drive and support the technical development of regional Property & Energy claim staff through formal educational programs / seminars and complex case collaboration in conjunction with regional claim management
- Represent AIG as the Regional Property & Energy claim lead for Asia for broker / customer relationship & engagement, supporting the business on existing accounts / programs as well as new business opportunities & presentations and conduct requisite stewardship meetings
- Support regional Multi-National Accounts and act as liaison as needed between producing and local offices
- Setting and agreeing claims financial authority for examiners throughout Asia ensuring team empowerment is balanced against governance and management oversight.
- Lead development and execution of strategic initiatives as part of the APAC Claims Leadership Group to include:-
- regional efforts aimed at mitigation of indemnity and expense spend in Property Construction & Energy claims by identifying opportunities for greater efficiency, cost effective use of resource and streamlining claims processes / requirements for volume business lines.
- Improved management of regional vendors / business partners to claims, including the establishment of a regional panel consistent and in conjunction with Global Property & Energy Claim Leaders
- Identification and communication of environmental risks relevant to Severity claims segment and the wider line of business
- Fully participate within the team of cross-class claims thought leaders, differentiating AIG through technical expertise.
- Support Global Property & Energy claim leaders in the development of regionally applicable technical loss handling standards, claim handling and GQA standards
- Periodic claims audit / review of APAC Property & Energy claims offices / operations
- Review and develop remedial action plans for significant GQA & OFR findings to correct deficiencies and to minimize financial / operational impact in conjunction with regional management and GQA
- Maintain ‘Best Practice’ guidelines for the Property Construction & Energy Claims.
- Set and establish AIG claims handling protocols for regional Catastrophe and disaster response
2. Accountabilities:
- Effective management of and resolution of Severity level claims handled by team adjusters
- Accurate and consistent reserving and financial control of Severity Claims.
- Mitigation of indemnity and expense spend in ‘Severity’ claims.
- Performance manage the team to maximise best practice compliance and minimise lost economic opportunity within Severity claims segment.
- Personal Development / Succession Planning for individuals within the Severity team.
- Managing compliance with governance standards and regulatory requirements within the Severity team.
- Proactive and effective communication with and alignment to all relevant stakeholders, from socialising large loss alerts to information on Severity and wider Property & Energy trends.
- Managing / controlling GOE budget within the Severity COE.
What you’ll need to succeed
- Significant years of experience in multi-national claims handling & management of technical issues within Property & Energy area.
- Experience in Property & Energy Knowledge & leading improvements in customer experience.
- Demonstrates accuracy and consistency in Reserving & Financial Control
- Strong policy language interpretation skills enabling accurate and consistent policy wording interpretation.
- Experience in negotiation, mediation, arbitration and ADR skills.
- Experience of working with markets and external stakeholders on large and complex claims issues.
- Strong claims management experience and communication skills. Must have the ability to address both internal (underwriting, distribution, actuarial, finance and executive management) and external (brokers, major account clients) audience.
- Experience in conducting technical claims audits and production of detailed findings and recommendations.
- Demonstrates catastrophe management experience
- Demonstrates awareness of emerging Risk
- People and team management experience, including the proven ability to effectively manage remote team members across multiple locations, develop working relationships and develop people.
- Ability to positively influence, in a multi-cultural environment, stakeholders at every level both internally & externally
- Highly effective communicator (written, verbal, presentation, training)
- Broad range of leadership competencies, from direction and pace setting to coaching and effective listening.
