Job description

The Project Manager is responsible for leading and managing complex research and development (R&D) projects from conception to completion. This role oversees the engineering and technical aspects of the project—coordinating mechanical, electrical, and software engineering components into integrated subsystem designs. The Project Manager drives timelines, manages budgets and resources, and collaborates with cross-functional teams to deliver innovative solutions to market.

Responsibilities:

Project Management

· Develop comprehensive project plans, schedule design reviews, and track project milestones.

· Prepare executive management updates and monitor adherence to budget and timeline.

· Coordinate with external vendors for cost and delivery of subsystem components within defined timelines.

· Guide engineering teams, provide direction, and explore alternative approaches for success. Identify risks early and implement effective mitigation strategies.

Technical Competency

· Lead complex system builds, particularly involving Ultra-High Vacuum Physical or Chemical Vapor Deposition technologies.

· Apply systems engineering principles, including requirements analysis, system architecture, integration, and verification/validation.

· Possess broad technical knowledge of capital equipment design, precision applications, and components for emerging technologies.

· Maintain a results-focused approach while upholding engineering standards and best practices.

Stakeholder Management

· Collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet critical milestones and quality targets.

· Act as the liaison between project stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.

· Facilitate communication, task prioritization, contingency planning, and strategic decision-making.

Continuous Improvement

· Drive continuous improvement initiatives and foster innovation within project teams.

· Analyze project processes to identify inefficiencies, bottlenecks, and redundancies.

· Recommend and implement improvements, including automation and design simplification.

· Evaluate new equipment and emerging technologies for enhanced performance.

Quality Assurance

· Establish and maintain a robust Quality Management System (QMS).

· Implement Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA) to support long-term quality improvements.

· Oversee system testing, validation, and compliance with technical specifications throughout the project lifecycle.

· Strong knowledge of deposition methods, semiconductor manufacturing, and vacuum physics.

· Proficiency in design tools and system-level engineering.

Education:

· Bachelor of Science in an Engineering discipline (required).

· Master of Science in Mechanical or Electrical engineering (preferred).

Experience:

· Minimum 7 years of progressive experience managing multi-disciplinary deposition or related capital equipment projects.

· Strong background in project control and use of project management tools.

· Proven record of successful project delivery.

· Excellent technical and analytical skills.

· PMP certification is a plus.
