Job summary

The Young Men's Christian Association of Singapore is seeking a dedicated classroom assistant to help prepare learning spaces and support engaging activities for children. You will supervise field visits, assist with lesson planning, and maintain attendance and assessments.

Ideal candidates are patient, cheerful and organized, with a passion for teaching kids. This role offers on-site work at Punggol or Ang Mo Kio within Singapore and a supportive learning environment.

• Student care / tutoring experience is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Prepare classroom environment and activities; ensure materials are high quality and adequately supplied.
• Supervise field visits and group discussions to broaden understanding.
• Prepare course objectives and outline following curriculum guidelines.
• Demonstrate and use audio-visual teaching aids to present material.
• Keep attendance reports and grade records.
• Assign daily lessons and schoolwork; prepare, administer and correct tests.
• Maintain order in classroom and playground; support children's well-being.
• Foster social behaviour through games and group projects.
• Encourage students in singing, dancing and stimulating lessons.
• Counsel students when adjustments and academic problems arise; provide warmth and stability.
• Instruct children in personal cleanliness and self-care; maintain calm and courteous classroom demeanor.
• Ensure safety and well-being of each child; observe for ill health or emotional disturbance.
• Maintain an atmosphere of safety, learning and fun aligned with YMCA’s philosophy.
• Any other duties or projects assigned by supervisor.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Responsible for the preparation of the classroom environment including pre-activity set up. Ensure the classroom materials are of superior quality and adequate supply.
• Supervise activities such as field visits and group discussions to stimulate students’ interest and broaden the understanding of their physical and social environment.
• Prepare course objectives and outline for course of study following curriculum guidelines or requirements of government.
• Demonstrate and use audio-visual teaching aids to present subject matter to class.
• Keep attendance reports and grade records.
• Assign daily lessons and schoolwork. Prepare, administer and correct tests and record results.
• Responsible for maintaining order in classroom and on playground.
• Foster social behaviour through games and group projects to assist children in forming fulfilling relationships with other children and adults.
• Encourage students in singing, dancing and stimulating lessons to involve the children in the classroom.
• Counsel students when adjustments and academic problems arise. Provide support, warmth, security and stability for the children.
• Instruct children in practices of personal cleanliness and self-care. Exhibit a sense of calm, consistency, grace and courtesy toward the children in the classroom.
• Ensure the safety and well-being of each individual child. Observe children to detect signs of ill health or emotional disturbance and to evaluate progress.
• Maintain an appropriate atmosphere of safety, learning and fun, in line with YMCA’s philosophy.
• Any other duties or projects to be assigned by the immediate supervisor.
