Job description

Care Community Services Society (CCSS) is a social service agency dedicated to empowering and enriching lives through community services. We focus on providing holistic support to children, youths, families, and seniors, building a caring and inclusive society.

Job Summary

  • Provide supervision and guidance to primary school children (7-12 years old) after school.
  • Plan and conduct after school activities that will nurture children and help them discover their potential (e.g. character development and fun-learning programmes).

Job Responsibilities

Supervision of school work:

  • Supervise and guide children with their school work.
  • Prepare and conduct daily lessons.

Activities:

  • Engage and motivate children.
  • Assist the Centre Supervisor in planning, organising and conducting programmes & activities for children.
  • Planning and design of programmes and activities.
  • Develop weekly programmes that help in character-building for the children; design programmes also to provide fun-learning for the children.
  • For school holidays, plan and develop full-day programmes.
  • For special events/celebrative occasions such as Children’s Day, plan and facilitate activities.

Children’s well-being:

  • Monitor the well-being of assigned children and provide basic counseling to children and/or parents.
  • Responsible to detect any unusual behavior among the children and report to Centre Supervisor on any such cases; work with Centre Supervisor to investigate cause of unusual behavior of the child and follow-up on necessary action; maintain confidentiality for the children concerned in the process of handling cases.
  • Schedule and make visits to homes of assigned children to find out whether the children are doing well or facing problems at home; report to Centre Supervisor on any issues detected and follow- up with necessary assistance to children and families.

Communication with parents:

  • Maintain frequent communication with parents to build mutual understanding and greater consistency for the children.
  • Discuss with parents any specific concerns, problems or issues that need attention.

Competencies

Supervision of children:

  • Assertiveness to ensure that children abide with time-tables.
  • Diligence to prepare oneself to conduct daily lessons.

Planning and design of programmes & activities:

  • Ability to determine learning goals and set the context (pre-determined theme or topic).
  • Creative to generate ideas that are related to the context; ability to be a team player and brainstorm ideas with Centre Supervisor and colleagues.
  • Ability to select and sequence activities which will engage children in active learning.

Children’s well-being:

  • Ability to communicate and relate with children well.
  • Observant in noticing any abnormal behaviour among the children.
  • Caring towards children’s well-being.

Requirements

Academic qualification & experience

  • Certificate in Children Services with experience of working with children preferred; Diploma holders without relevant experience may also apply.

Passion & personality

  • Have a passion to reach out to and empower children, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds.
  • Able to build good rapport with children, parents and volunteers.
  • Self-motivated team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
