Job summary

RTX's Collins Aerospace group in Singapore is seeking an experienced MRO Operations Support engineer to drive 3D printing enabled repair processes and tooling development for airworthiness compliant solutions.

The role focuses on design for 3D print, automation, and cross-functional collaboration to improve turnaround times, cost efficiency and product quality in MRO workflows.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or equivalent.
  • 3–7 years of relevant experience.
  • Engineering trained, good team player with strong communication skills.
  • SMART Factory and Industry 4.0 experience is a plus.
  • Interest in digital databases, data analytics, and programming.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical advice on workscope management, repair dispositions, and airworthiness decisions.
  • Support repair assessment for nacelle components and communicate with OEM on technical issues.
  • Prepare repair packages with drawings, stress analysis, and airworthiness submissions.
  • Design tooling aids and fixtures, coordinating with vendors for fabrication and calibration.
  • Develop 3D-printed tooling, fixtures, and repair support components.
  • Evaluate 3D-printed parts for fit and strength in MRO environments.
  • Coordinate with design, stress, tooling, and quality teams for integration of 3D-printed solutions.
  • Lead cross-functional improvement and training related to automation and 3D printing.

Responsibilities
MRO Operation Support
  • Function as key engineering focal to provide technical advice on workscope management, repair dispositions, engineering repair quotes and technical support to Operations, Quality and Customers in meeting airworthiness and customer requirements.
  • Support operations to perform repair assessment on nacelle components metallic and composite structures.
  • Support communication with OEM on technical issues and component repair assessment.
  • Prepare repair packages with detailed repair drawing, stress analysis and submission for airworthiness approvals.
  • Perform basic design activities for tooling aid and assembly jig fixtures, coordination with vendor for fabrication and calibration.
  • Support new repair capability development, system setup and airworthiness application.
  • Support Quality reviews and investigations to enhance and improve engineering and operational processes.
  • Identify, support, drive engineering and shop cost reduction and continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Develop and conduct Engineering, Component and Product training to Operations Team.
  • Engage with shopfloor personnel to assess initial design concepts or sketches, and translate them into practical solutions using CATIA and 3D printing tools
  • Support the design, prototyping, and fabrication of tooling aids, fixtures, mockups, and repair support components using in-house 3D printing capabilities
  • Evaluate 3D printed parts for fit, functionality, mechanical strength, and material suitability for MRO environments
  • Perform structural assessments of 3D printed components, particularly for stress-critical applications
  • Coordinate cross-functionally with design, stress, tooling, and quality teams to ensure successful integration of 3D printed solutions into MRO workflows
  • Manage lead time and cost expectations for 3D printed items, ensuring alignment with project schedules and MRO shop support needs
  • Document and share best practices, lessons learned, and technical guidance across teams and sites to promote consistent application of 3D printing
  • Conduct training sessions or knowledge sharing on design for 3D print, printer operation, and post-processing as needed
  • Champion 3D printing as part of broader digital transformation and Industry 4.0/continuous improvement initiatives
  • Collaborate with end users to implement 3D-printed solutions into MRO workflows to improve turnaround time, ergonomics, and cost efficiency
Continuous Improvement
  • Identification of new digitalization and Industry 4.0 opportunities for technology introduction and automation into MRO operation
  • Design new automation equipment, processes, and write Macro etc. for example to develop Robotic Process
  • Automation (RPA) for improve work process using Python programming
  • Programming new automated components to the MRO process
  • Developing and maintaining clear and accurate documentation of automation equipment or processes
  • Draft SOP and conduct training to users where necessary - typically after implementing new RPA processes or technology equipment etc
  • Support Troubleshooting automated processes, Technology equipment when operation has issues
  • Project management - From trade study, regular update to management team, and present to leadership team and visitors
  • Support deployment and adoption of 3D printing initiatives within MRO, including printer operation, model preparation, and post-processing
  • Conduct training sessions for engineers and technicians on 3D printing basic operation and part design
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify MRO use cases where 3D printing offers lead time, cost, or ergonomic benefits
Requirements
Education & Experience
  • Degree / Master Degree in Mechanical Engineering / Aerospace Engineering or equivalent
  • 3-7 years' of relevant experience
  • Engineering trained, good team player, self-motivated, fast learner, good communication skill, and good authoring/literature composing.
  • SMART Factory, Industry 4.0 experience & knowledge will be considered as added merits.
  • Experience on new technology application
  • Interest in digital database, data analytics. Programming skill - python, C#, Visual Studio, etc.
  • Robot / Cobot application and integration
Skills
  • Excellent computer skills – O365, Microsoft Visio, MathCad. Nastran and Patran, CATIA V5 is added advantage.
  • Python or other programming language and software development is added advantage.
  • Knowledge in machining and rapid prototyping would be beneficial
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, geometric dimensioning, and tolerance.
  • Ability to use various measurement instruments.
  • Equipment troubleshooting skills such as debug or troubleshoot an existing system.
  • Excellent Communication and presenting skills, able to clearly explain novel and complex ideas to stakeholders of all levels and within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent written communication skills for record keeping and documentation.
  • Problem solving and creative thinking to troubleshoot problems as they arise and find effective solutions.
  • Planning skills to detail project timeline, prioritize workload and keep accurate documentation.
  • Flexibility & Adaptability -able to keep up with latest techniques and technologies as they develop
