3>Job Description

The Production Supervisor has primary accountability to the Production Manager for the efficient and on time delivery of slit insulation materials and insulation component parts. Such components are to be manufactured strictly to prescribed design specifications and quantities, and shall be quality controlled (in‑process followed by final QA outgoing inspection) and packed before release to Warehouse.

To achieve this objective, the Production Supervisor must carry out these responsibilities:

  • Ensure that all consumables are requisitioned and delivered to the production work stations on time for production to commence.
  • Work together with Production Team Leaders and Operators to check to ensure that all required machineries, equipment and tools are available and in good working condition. Any issues likely to impede the smooth production operation should be flagged up to the Production Manager and Maintenance Department for immediate rectification.
  • Responsible for reviewing production orders received from Sales and plan out daily production schedule.
  • Chair toolbox meeting & check attendance of Team Leads and Operators at the start of the shift to ensure all required employees are available. In the event of unplanned employee absences, the Supervisor must seek temporary resources from other production sections to make good the manpower shortfall. If this is not possible, the Supervisor must review the production schedule for the day, and re‑prioritise the manufacturing operations as necessary to meet delivery commitments. The Production Manager should be promptly informed of any changes to work scheduling for the day, including any actions taken to prevent production delays. The Production Supervisor is also required to inform the Sales Team of any changes to the production delivery date while keeping the Production Manager informed.
  • Update HR Department on status of any late reporting or absenteeism by employees.
  • If overtime work is deemed necessary to cope with the production demands, this should be arranged early in the shift with the operators, and overtime requests submitted to the Production Manager for timely approval.
The Supervisor should visit every work station to observe the work being done to check on:
  • Adherence to approved manufacturing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and quality specifications in the manufacturing process.
  • Progress of Production Orders.
  • Appropriate and careful handling of raw materials.
  • Complete & file all essential documentation work.
  • Quality of finished components (conduct random check) and ensure the correct quantity of finished components has been produced.
  • Condition of equipment and tools to identify any potential issues, and feedback to Maintenance Engineer & Production Manager if servicing or preventive maintenance is required to avoid equipment downtime.
  • Safety at Work – proper use of equipment, elimination of potential safety hazards, correct use of PPE, gloves, ear plugs, dust masks etc. Recommend any safety improvements.
  • Housekeeping and cleanliness in accordance with 6S principles.
  • Employee related issues/concerns, if any.
  • Opportunities for process improvements including reduction of process cycle time through improved process flow, eliminating errors and rework, minimizing material handling and transportation, reducing waste, and achieving zero errors with a right‑first‑time approach using Lean Manufacturing methodologies. Such improvement opportunities should be highlighted to the Production Engineer and Production Manager, and work collaboratively with relevant colleagues to implement improvement plans.
  • Productivity of staff by monitoring and analysing the Production timesheets.
  • Any quality and production issues which should be promptly reported to the Production Manager or Sales team (if required) for awareness and follow‑up actions.
  • Any training required for Operators to implement process improvement initiatives and highlight these to the Production Manager.
  • Perform other duties as required by the Production Manager.
PD 2 Supervisor
  • Receive and check Production Orders, customers’ drawings, BOMs, SOPs and Work Instructions from the Production Engineer.
  • Instruct Production Team to manufacture the products according to customers’ requirements and delivery dates. Work with Team Leaders to liaise with Production Engineer on raw material availability.
  • Receive In‑Process Inspection Reports from the Production Engineer and instruct Production Team to conduct in‑process inspection. Check and verify In‑Process Inspection Report before submitting to Production Manager. Scan and keep soft copies of Production Orders with Inspection Reports.
  • Once goods have been completed, request for final inspection by the QA team.
  • Submit Production Orders and packing details to Production Admin for closing. Check that closing is done.
Requirements
  1. Have a background in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  2. Prior experience in a manufacturing environment, including production planning experience and supervisory responsibilities.
  3. Possess a keen eye for detail.
  4. Willing to be hands‑on and learn the operation of all machines.
  5. Must be proficient using Microsoft Office.
  6. Experience in SAP is an added advantage.
  7. Good command of English and Chinese (to liaise with stakeholders).
