Job description

We are looking for a Production Coordinator to coordinate production and technical services/activities of the Centre with the objective of creating a world-class arts centre with efficient and effective backstage operations.

As a Production Coordinator you must be able to apply the knowledge and skills to one or more specific projects or services in production. The Production Coordinator is expected to participate in the training of staff and to assume a supervisory role when required. Must have the ability to develop, test and evaluate complex options and issues to run a production, event or activity.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Act as a Liaison with clients on technical and staffing needs, co-ordinates and schedules timely production and technical activities.

  • Interpret and communicate technical plans and needs to relevant technical departments and input into venue management system.

  • Provide clients (both internal and external) with estimated production costs on a timely basis and revise as needed. Complete invoices and work orders and verify costs on completion of the event.

  • Assist in developing and implementing policies and standard operating procedures for the department

  • Coordinate production and technical activities of the Esplanade to ensure efficient backstage operations through effective scheduling of resources.

  • Advise clients (both internal and external) when appropriate on possible ways to improve the production value of the show within the parameters established.

  • Share and maintain contact of creative and production staff and other backstage resources and suppliers.

  • Hire and supervise casual stage managers and other casual/contract staff as required. To assist Technical Manager in deploying and managing technical staff effectively.

  • Ensure a safe working environment is always maintained in all stage and backstage areas.

  • Perform Risk Assessments when required and conduct regular safety inspections.

  • Lead and provide support on assigned department support duties.

  • To coordinate and event manage ancillary functions

  • Assist in technical production training courses.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

  • A tertiary qualification from a recognised institution in Technical Theatre, stage management, or equivalent professional experience.

  • Competent in Excel, AutoCad and Risk Assessment

  • At least 3 to 4 years working experience as a Stage Manager or Technical/Production Manager of equivalent level

  • Strong people management skills and ability to work as part of a team are important. Knowledge of accounting is also an asset.

  • Skill in quality customer service is essential together with good communication skills

  • Knowledge of the arts industry in general and theatre technical production are also crucial.

  • Irregular working hours and "hands-on" work may be necessary.
