About the Role

The Procurement Officer - Direct Materials will play a key role in acquiring high-quality materials that directly impact our manufacturing processes. This position is essential for ensuring a seamless supply of raw materials (API) and components, while optimizing costs and ensuring regulatory compliance. The incumbent should possess strong negotiation skills, a solid understanding of the pharmaceutical industry, and experience in managing direct materials procurement within a manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Direct Materials Procurement: Manage the end-to-end procurement process for direct materials used in pharmaceutical manufacturing, ensuring timely delivery, cost optimization, and quality standards compliance.
  • Supplier Network Development: Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers of direct materials, focusing on negotiating favourable terms, ensuring the reliability of supply, and driving cost savings without compromising on quality.
  • Vendor Evaluation and Selection: Perform evaluations of suppliers based on key performance indicators (KPIs) such as cost, quality, delivery timelines, and regulatory compliance. Continuously monitor supplier performance to ensure alignment with organizational goals.
  • Contract Negotiation and Management: Prepare and manage contracts for direct material suppliers, ensuring favourable terms and compliance with all regulatory and internal standards.
  • Inventory Management: Monitor and optimize inventory levels of direct materials to avoid shortages and reduce excess stock. Work closely with the Supply Chain team to balance supply with demand and minimize production downtime.
  • Collaboration with Cross-functional Teams: Collaborate with Manufacturing, Quality Assurance, Quality Control, R&D, and Supply Chain teams to ensure procurement activities align with operational needs and regulatory requirements.
  • Regulatory Compliance and Quality Assurance: Ensure that all direct materials procured comply with regulatory requirements (e.g., Good Manufacturing Practices, GMP) and internal quality standards.
  • Cost Management and Reporting: Manage procurement budgets for direct materials, providing regular reports on spending, tracking savings, and identifying opportunities for cost reduction.
  • Continuous Improvement: Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the procurement process, reduce lead times, and increase overall procurement efficiency.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Supply Chain Management, Pharmacy, Chemistry, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 4-6 years of direct materials procurement experience in the pharmaceutical or related manufacturing industry.
  • Strong understanding of procurement processes, vendor management, and contract negotiation.
  • Familiarity with pharmaceutical industry regulations, including GMP and other quality standards.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external suppliers.
  • Strong analytical skills, with a keen attention to detail and a focus on cost optimization and efficiency.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment while managing competing priorities.
