The WWTP Process Engineer is responsible for the operation, monitoring, optimization, and continuous improvement of industrial and hazardous wastewater treatment processes at the wastewater treatment plant (WWTP). This role provides technical judgment, process troubleshooting, and engineering support to ensure stable compliance with discharge standards, operational efficiency, and EHS requirements.
Conduct daily operation, monitoring, and optimization of industrial and hazardous wastewater treatment systems including physico-chemical treatment, advanced oxidation processes, biological treatment, and tertiary/polishing treatment units
Adjust operating parameters based on influent water quality variations (COD, BOD, SS, oil & grease, toxicity, etc.)
Conduct technical evaluation of new incoming wastewater or waste streams and determine suitable treatment routes and pretreatment requirements
Plan, organize, and execute bench-scale tests (e.g. jar tests, pilot trials) to verify treatment feasibility
Provide technical recommendations to support operational decisions and commercial assessments
Handle system abnormalities such as effluent non-compliance, biological inhibition, membrane fouling, and process instability
Perform root cause analysis (RCA) and propose corrective and preventive actions (CAPA)
Prepare, update, and maintain SOPs, process operating parameters, and technical reports
Guide technicians and laboratory staff on sampling, testing, and on-site process adjustments
Ensure safe operation of chemical systems, advanced oxidation units, and biological treatment processes in compliance with EHS requirements
Bachelor's degree or above in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Applied Chemistry, Biotechnology, or related disciplines
Minimum 5 years of experience in industrial wastewater or hazardous wastewater treatment
Hands-on operational experience in one or more of the following systems is preferred: Advanced oxidation processes (Fenton, electrochemical, ozone, UV), Biological treatment systems (anaerobic + aerobic, MBR)
Ability to independently perform process evaluation, troubleshooting, and operating parameter optimization
Strong understanding of common wastewater quality parameters and their impact on treatment systems
Competent in bench-scale test design and data analysis
Good communication skills with operations, laboratory teams, and management
Strong sense of responsibility and ability to make sound technical judgments under abnormal conditions
Able to work in a plant-based, on-site operational environment
