Job summary

Applied Materials, Inc. is seeking a Process Engineer to develop and optimize BEOL optical processes in a high-volume semiconductor manufacturing environment.

You will analyze data, characterize hardware, and collaborate with vendors and internal teams to drive yield, performance, and reliability improvements. The role focuses on implementing data-driven approaches and working with cross-functional teams to resolve technical challenges and advance next-generation display and semiconductor

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Develop, optimize BEOL Optical processes to meet performance, yield, and reliability goals.
  • Collaborate with process module engineers (etch, deposition, lithography) to improve device and yield in high-volume manufacturing.
  • Work with cross-functional teams including end customers, FEOL/BEOL Integration, Device, Defect Reduction, Reliability, Quality and external customers to support milestones and resolve technical queries.
  • Design, execute, and analyze results from DOE studies to solve complex process engineering issues and implement RCA mitigation plans.
  • Design, collect data, analyze and report on complex process engineering experiments for multiple products, within safety guidelines.
  • Characterize hardware and apply new technologies to hardware characterization across multiple products, within safety guidelines.

As a Process Engineer

As a Process Engineer, you'll play a crucial role in designing and optimizing manufacturing processes for display and semiconductor manufacturing technologies. You will collect and analyze data, perform hardware characterization, and troubleshoot engineering issues. You'll also measure film properties, generate technical documentation, and engage with customers to resolve concerns. Process Engineers collaborate with vendors and suppliers, and become familiar with implementing new technologies and products. You will experiment, learn, and collaborate with some of the brightest minds in the semiconductor and display industries, partnering with our globally recognized R&D teams on state-of-the-art research and development projects.


Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Process Engineer to develop and optimize BEOL (Back end of Line) optical processes in a high-volume semiconductor manufacturing environment. The role focuses on improving yield, performance, and reliability through data-driven approaches such as Design of Experiments (DOE) and Root Cause Analysis (RCA). You will collaborate cross-functionally with process, integration, and customer teams to solve complex engineering challenges, support key milestones, and drive continuous process improvements. This position requires strong analytical expertise, hands-on experimentation, and the ability to translate technical insights into impactful solutions.


Key Responsibilities


  • Active participation in the development, optimization, and qualification of BEOL Optical processes to meet performance, yield, and reliability requirements.

  • Partner with process module engineers (e.g., etch, deposition, lithography) to improve device and yield performance in high-volume manufacturing.

  • Work with cross-functional teams including end customers, FEOL/BEOL Integration, Device, Defect Reduction, Reliability, Quality, and external customers to support milestones and resolve technical queries.

  • Design, execute, and analyze results from Design of Experiments (DOE) to solve complex process engineering issues, perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and implement mitigation plans for yield or performance problems.

  • Design, collect data, analyze and compile reports on a wide range of complex process engineering experiments for multiple products, within safety guidelines.

  • Utilize techniques to characterize hardware, define methods and apply new technologies to characterize hardware, and/or perform hardware characterization on a wide range of complex systems for multiple products, within safety guidelines.
