Job description

A Senior/Principal Process Development Engineer is responsible for developing or overseeing the development of chemical processes, including low carbon processes, as well as monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimizing processes in a pilot plant leading up to a technology transfer. He/she will perform process design, engineering, and scale-up in a Low-Carbon Technology Translational Testbed (LCT3) on Jurong Island, leading to a technology transfer. This role requires a good understanding and knowledge of the key process/chemical engineering and scientific principles of low carbon technologies, utilizing computer-aided engineering tools such as simulators, process, and plant engineering tools for process development and engineering. The individual should think analytically to solve problems and improve existing methods and processes.

Key Accountabilities

  • Provide scientific and technical direction for the development, design, and scale-up of carbon capture, utilization, and low carbon hydrogen technologies.
  • Develop new projects with defined timelines, milestones, methodologies, expected results, and resource requirements.
  • Plan and execute laboratory and pilot-scale experiments to support process development, scale-up campaigns, and process optimization leading to technology transfer.
  • Lead or support multidisciplinary teams of scientists and engineers through technical challenges to ensure successful project completion.
  • Supervise and mentor junior process development scientists and engineers.

Job Requirements

  • Doctorate or Master’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or related engineering fields.
  • At least 10 years of experience in process development and engineering, with good knowledge of process control and safety in the chemical industry.
  • Excellent knowledge of various process technologies, scale-up & scale-down, and process intensification methodologies.
  • Experience with computer-aided engineering tools such as Aspen Plus, AVEVA, Gproms, and the use of detailed process models for design, scale-up, and optimization.
  • Collaborative experience with disciplines like electrical, instrumentation, automation, and process safety.
  • Ability to plan and execute experiments at laboratory and pilot scale to support development, troubleshooting, and optimization.
  • Experience in a chemical production facility, familiarity with industry regulations, codes, and best practices is advantageous.
  • Experience with process/plant engineering tools such as AutoCAD and Aucotec Engineering Base is advantageous.
  • Technical leadership qualities for leading teams and supervising junior engineers.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Self-driven, meticulous, with good multitasking and time management skills under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills for documentation, presentations, and discussions in a multidisciplinary environment.
