Principal Mechanical Engineer (Robotics)

Design the system/software architecture of a Robot Planning and Management System (RPMS); ensuring scalability to manage a large number of Heterogeneous robots. The incumbent would also be required to work on applications within the RPMS and to ensure applications developed by other team members are according to specifications. This role reports directly to the Head of Autonomous System of Systems Strategic Engineering Centre.

Objectives of this Role

1. Analyse, design and develop roadmaps and implementation plans based on system/software architecture.
2. Formulate the conceptual and detailed system/software architecture for the development of applications to meet customer requirements.
3. Develop system/software architecture requirements and maintain oversight.
4. Work with the Product Owner of the RPMS on the product roadmap.
5. Lead the product development effort:
   1. Ensure the applications assigned to other team members are developed according to specifications.
   2. Developing some applications for the RPMS.
6. Participate in system/code reviews, troubleshooting, and continuous enhancement of the system design/codebase.
7. Lead and facilitate the system/software architecture governance processes.
8. Review and approve recommendations to system/software architectural standards.
9. Align architectural requirements with IT strategy.
10. Oversee the development of guidelines and standards to be used in system/software development, integration and testing.
11. Provide recommendations on relevant emerging technology to senior management.
12. Identify and lead strategic technical capability development.
13. Collaborate on research and development projects to explore new capabilities and applications for robotics technology.
14. Familiar with system engineering/software development tools and standards.
15. Familiar with the relevant software platforms on which the solution is deployed.
16. Drive adoption of RPMS modules by the Business Units through projects and project management.

Required Skills and Qualifications

1. Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering or Mechatronics.
2. 10+ years of experience in two or more of the following areas:
   1. System Engineering Analysis and Design.
   2. Autonomous Command and Control Systems.
   3. Unmanned Systems Architecture.
   4. Cloud native software architecture design.
   5. Distributed software development.
   6. Cloud based robot fleet management.
   7. ROS and ROS 2 or any robotic middlewares.
   8. Developing the applications with micro-service architecture.
   9. Hands-on experience in working with docker platform.
3. Highly proficient in one or more programming languages, e.g., C/C++, Python, Golang and JavaScript.
4. Experience in the following areas will be advantageous:
   1. Working on Linux (Ubuntu/RedHat) and Windows OS.
   2. Working on MySQL or MSSQL database server.
   3. Working with communication protocols like WebSocket, Restful API, Open DDS or protobuf etc.
   4. Experience of AWS or Azure or GCP.
   5. Project management.
   6. Scrum Product Owner.
