Job summary

Workstream Technologies, Inc. is seeking a Principal Engineer to join our growing engineering team.

You will collaborate with local and remote squad members to ensure alignment with engineering strategy, design scalable APIs, and mentor engineers to deliver high-quality software. Ideal candidates bring 5+ years in full-stack development (Ruby on Rails or Node.js with React/TypeScript), strong PostgreSQL experience, and hands-on AWS cloud work.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of industry experience as an individual contributor in full-stack web development.
• 3+ years of experience with React or TypeScript in the front end.
• 2+ years of experience with PostgreSQL relational databases.
• 5+ years building and maintaining RESTful APIs.
• Experience with microservice-based architectures is a bonus.
• 2+ years working in Agile software engineering environments (Scrum, Jira, GitHub, DevOps).
• Ability to collaborate with Product and Design to manage requirements and roadmaps.
• Familiarity with AWS and distributed engineering teams across time zones.

• Communicate tasks, challenges, and workflows with the Engineering Manager and cross-functional partners.

We are seeking a talented Principal Engineer to join our growing engineering team.

This is a full-time, hybrid position requiring 1 day per week in the office to support close cross-functional collaboration.

Day in the Life:

• As a Principal Engineer, you will work with your squad team members (local + remote) to ensure that implementations are consistent with the overall Engineering team strategy.
• You will work closely with the Engineering Manager on communicating tasks, challenges, and workflows across a globally distributed team.
• You will contribute to the design and architecting of cutting-edge tools and technologies while maintaining the existing stack.
• You will guide team development efforts toward successful sprint delivery.
• You will maintain high software quality standards within the team by establishing good habits and practices.
• You will provide technical leadership to team members through mentoring and coaching.

Who You Are:

• 5+ years of industry experience as an individual contributor in full-stack web development
• Advanced skills in JavaScript and Node JS or Ruby on Rails with 3+ years of experience with React or TypeScript.
• Mobile and React Native experience is an asset.
• 2+ years of experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL.
• 5+ years of experience building and maintaining RESTful APIs.
• Experience developing and maintaining microservice-based systems is a bonus.
• 2+ years of experience working in Agile software engineering methods and tools: Scrum, Jira, GitHub, DevOps, and software architectures that allow rapid iterations
• Demonstrate an understanding of requirement management and roadmap development with product managers
• Have a passion for effective collaboration within and between cross-functional teams, with a history of building influence with Product and Design
• Familiarity with cloud technologies (AWS) and architectural patterns and their trade-offs
• Experience working with globally distributed engineering teams across multiple timezones
• Passionate to learn, understand, and dissect new technology stacks quickly on your own
• Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university; or equivalent training, education, and experience in information / cyber security, computer systems, IT, etc
