UWCSEA East is seeking a Primary School Language Teaching Assistant (Bilingual Chinese) to enhance the learning experience in the classroom. The role includes collaborating with teachers, supporting students’ Chinese learning, and maintaining a positive learning environment. Candidates should hold a diploma in a related field and have a strong command of both Chinese and English, alongside experience working with young learners.
UWCSEA East has a vacancy for a Primary School Language Teaching Assistant (Bilingual Chinese) to join the team.
Reporting to theHead of K-8 Chinese, the Chinese Language teacher assistant (TA) will assist and support learning within the classroom environment and other settings to their allocated students in support of their Chinese learning
Pre-lesson Support
Collaborate with teachers to plan and implement learning engagements based on student progress
Support students during break times as well as arrival and departure as required
Assist teachers in all aspects of classroom routines and curriculum, including programme delivery, setting up/dismantling of displays, organisation of resources
Assist teachers to produce, organise and maintain Mandarin teaching materials and resources (physical and electronic media)
Collaborate with the other Teaching Assistants to support the needs of the department
During Lesson Support
Assist in delivering targeted support within the classroom environment and other settings to allocated students under the guidance of the teacher
Communicate effectively with students and ensure that their learning is prioritised and supported fully and appropriately
Lead the learning with students in a one to one situation or in small groups as indicated by the teachers
Support children across the curriculum, with a particular focus on speaking, reading and writing
Use technology to support children’s learning
Engage in all aspects of student learning and curriculum, including programme delivery
Documentation
Monitor and document student learning, well-being and behaviour in an effort to better meet student's needs and goals
Observe the student and take anecdotal notes to inform the planning of appropriate next steps
Assist with administrative duties, e.g. organisation of student’s learning data

Build positive, productive relationships with the students to support their engagement and learning, including building opportunities to draw on student interests and strengths within the learning programme

Abide by the school’s policies and practices, including the professional code of conduct.
Demonstrate professionalism in all interactions within the school setting and in school business.
Engage in and complete all required safeguarding training and use relevant College systems.
Use initiative to take on additional responsibilities as and when required.
Assist with any other duties, tasks or jobs with similar levels of responsibility and complexity to the assigned job grade as may be reasonably requested by the line manager and/or the College.
Qualification
Essential: Diploma in related discipline
Desirable: Bachelor's degree or above in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language, Chinese Language, Education.
Experience
At least 1 -2 years of relevant experience in similar capacity
Must be passionate about working with young children to positively impact their learning
Skills
Have a strong interest in Chinese language
Competent in spoken and written English and native proficiency level inChinese Language, speaking, reading and writing
Able to work with 4 - 14 year olds
Team player with good interpersonal and communication skills
Willing to take on tasks outside classroom duties
Able to work cohesively in a team-based environment as well as independently
Must be able flexible, willing and able to adapt and change at short notice in response to student and school needs
Physically fit and able to work with students including working on the floor with students, kneeling, supervising student up and down the stairs, outdoor duties, and accompanying students on outdoor activities, including off campus and multiple overnight camps
Experience working with students is essential and experience working with young students would be advantageous
A willingness to learn and a commitment to ongoing professional learning is essential to keep up-to date and continue to improve own practice
Proficient with technology including Google platforms, Gmail and Google calendar and a working knowledge of Mac as well as Microsoft Office
