Job summary

Middleton International School in Tampines, Singapore, is seeking a School Cook to manage breakfast and lunch preparation for preschoolers. Reporting to the Executive Chef, you will join the Kitchen Team to maintain high standards of cleanliness and to prepare a balanced and nutritious menu.

The role requires knowledge of food safety, the ability to follow recipes, and strong teamwork in a fast-paced school kitchen.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of food safety procedures and safe temperatures.
• Ability to work as part of a team, collaborating on dishes.
• Interpersonal skills to interact with staff, management and students.
• Calm demeanor to work in a fast-paced kitchen.
• Ability to follow recipes and measure ingredients accurately.
• Stamina to stand for long hours and work shifts.
• At least 2 years of cooking experience, preferably in preschool/childcare.
• Good mathematical calculation skills for portioning.
• Able to work independently as well as in a team.
• Strong communication with colleagues and supervisors.

Responsibilities

• Maintain food safety and sanitation standards.
• Follow recipes, including measuring and weighing ingredients.
• Ensure ingredients and final products are fresh.
• Bake, grill, steam and boil meats, vegetables, fish, poultry and other foods.
• Present, garnish and arrange final dishes.
• Occasionally serve food.
• Maintain a clean and safe work area, including handling utensils, equipment and dishes.
• Handle and store ingredients and food.
• Ensure food is hygienically stored and expiry dates are clearly labeled.
• Order stock in line with requirements, keeping accounts and budget control.
• Maintain correct stock levels, stock rotation and labeling with expiry dates.
• Ensure all kitchen equipment are cleaned before and after use.
• Keep track of freezers and refrigerators at correct temperatures.
• Adhere to Health Promotion Board Guidelines during preparation, cooking and serving.
• Remove waste materials to designated waste bins regularly.
• Take on any other ad-hoc duties as assigned by superiors.
