Job description

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Preschool Educator effectively creates a secure and quality learning environment for children through nurturing trusting and respectful relationships. They enrich children’s learning by co-designing and implementing developmentally and culturally appropriate curricula, while integrating innovative teaching practices. They are proactive in strengthening partnerships with families and the community, and collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders to achieve this goal.

As an experienced Early Childhood Educator, they guide junior educators in enhancing their professional practice, contribute suggestions for professional development, and foster a culture of collaboration and collegiality within the Centre.

1. Plan and implement curriculum and programmes

  • Plan developmentally appropriate teaching, learning, and caregiving activities aligned with relevant curricula frameworks.
  • Review results of learning needs assessments.
  • Guide juniors in engaging children meaningfully according to the curriculum and pedagogical frameworks.
  • Customize classroom management strategies.
  • Design a quality learning environment with developmentally appropriate materials and resources.
  • Review health, safety, nutritional, and hygiene practices according to standards and procedures.
  • Identify emerging trends and incorporate teaching methods, tools, and assistive technology.
  • Evaluate documentation of children’s learning and development to inform planning and teaching.

2. Build stakeholder relationships and partnerships

  • Implement communication strategies to foster collaboration within the Centre.
  • Identify opportunities to collaborate with families for continuity of care and learning.

3. Manage family and community programmes

  • Develop outreach activities to promote Centre programmes and services.
  • Guide the execution of collaborative projects with families and community stakeholders.
  • Evaluate and improve family and community initiatives.

4. Conduct routine caregiving

  • Review caregiving assessments and practices according to standards.
  • Identify opportunities for caregiving improvements.

5. Uplift professional practice

  • Co-develop teaching and caregiving methods based on sector trends and technologies.
  • Analyze areas for professional improvement.
  • Propose professional development and service quality enhancements.
  • Promote the Centre's vision, mission, and values.

Job Requirements:

  • Possess at least a Professional Diploma in Early Childhood Care and Education - Teaching (PDECCE-T), Diploma in Early Childhood Care and Education - Teaching (DECCE-T), or equivalent.
  • Certificates in Preschool Mother Tongue Language (Malay and Tamil) (CPMTL-M, CPMTL-T).
